The United Intermicronational Defense Organization, (UMDO, UIDO), is an intermicronational organization aimed at development and defense. It promotes communication, cooperation and stability in the micronational community. The alliance's main legislative body is the UMDO Commission, comprised of all delegates representing their micronation or organization.

The UMDO can trace its lineage all the way back to the (now defunct) Micro Confederation, a group of nations aimed at "cooperation and unity", and then to the "great merge". Founded by the USRM, the UMDO was founded in January of 2022, after their president successfully merged the MUN and MPDO.

UMDO membership is open to any and all sovereign, independent states who are approved by the Commission. An Executive officer is elected every year to lead the organization, and then appoints a presiding officer to run the Commission. The judicial branch is the Micronational Court, which consists of the Executive Officer, (acting as chief judge), and several other associate judges.

The UMDO hopes to become a CAMO (commonly accepted micronational organization), akin to the Cupertino Alliance and Grand Unified Micronational.

Etymology

The name "United Micronational Defense Organization" comes from the names of the two organizations that merged to create it: The Micro United Nations and the Micronational Peace and Defense Organization. It was coined by Desslok V. Nafage of the Nexan Republic.

History

Predecessors

[insert logo of UMDO and MPDO]

The UMDO was originally known as the Micro Confederation. It was founded in early 2020 by the United States of the Rocky Mountains, yet fell apart a few months later due to inactivity. After the dissolution of the MC, the USRM founded the Rocky Mountain Confederation, lasting for about a year, the organization illegally removed the Chairman and reformed the organization into the OFN (Organization of Free Nations), effectively ending the Rocky Mountain Confederation. The MPDO was formed, and eventually merged with the MUN, due to the leadership of both organizations being the same, and frequent "discord raids" by Almendria to the Micro UN (MUN).

2021 to Present

After the organization merged to become the United Micronational Defense Organization, it fell into a state of inactivity for several months. The Conservative Creek Republic was kicked out due to threatening to "doxx" one of their allies, and has consistently tried to return to the organization. The Executive officer went on to become General Secretary of the Alliance of the Micronations, and was not able to work on both. He eventually resigned as the General Secretary, and is now focusing on revitalizing the organization.

A new charter was created and a new Security Council elected. These security council members are now working on recreating the organization to its' former glory.

Structure

The United Micronational Defense Organization has three main branches of the government, these being the Executive, Legislative and Judicial. The executive is composed of the Executive Officer, the Legislative is composed of the Commission, and the Judicial is composed of the Micronational Court.

Commission

The Defense Commission is the legislative branch of the UMDO. It is comprised of delegates from provisional and full member states, giving every micronation a say in what happens in the organization. These delegates are responsible for casting their nations votes during commission meetings and representing their micronation in the UMDO.

The presiding officer is appointed by the Executive before taking office, then approved by the Commission. They run sessions and votes within the commission, allowing for smoother sessions within the commission.

The Executive

The Executive Officer of the United Micronational Defense Organization, also known as the Executive Officer, General Secretary, Chairman, or simply The Executive, is the head of the organization. They are responsible for everything that takes place within the UMDO, including commission meetings, allowing in new member states, protecting the organization, etc. The Executive serves alongside the Presiding Officer, ensuring everything runs smoothly.

The Executive has a term of 1 year, ensuring they have the time to deliver on their campaign promises. There is not a set limit for the terms an executive can hold, however there is currently a bill restricting it to two. The first and current executive is President Clemens of the USRM, serving until January of 2023 (when the next election will take place).

Micronational Court

The Micronational Court is the judicial branch of the United Micronational Defense Organization, composed of the Executive Officer of the United Micronational Defense Organization and several Associate Judges. Similar to the Cupertino Alliance, the Micronational Court acts semi-independently from the Commission. It can act as a neutral body, mediating conflicts between member states and, if needed, overrule acts passed by commission.

Security Council

The Security Council is the body within the UMDO tasked with promotion and development of micronational peace and security. It consists of nine member states, (five permanent and four temporary) with four elected every 6 months. It could intervene in any micronational conflict within the organization, ruling as it deems necessary. It works closely with the Executive, Presiding officer and Commission to maintain peace within the community.

Membership

Membership within the United Micronational Defense Organization is divided into three categories, akin to the League of Independent nations, these being Observers, Provisional and Full Member states. All applicants must meet the requirements laid out by the UMDO charter, these being:

  1. Any micronation must have at least 5 citizens, or are aspiring to have 5 citizens, with a clear established micronation, meaning at least a first draft of a constitution/charter, a stable government (ruling over the people firmly without chance of uprisings and/or Coup D'états), active citizens, and three active laws in place.
  2. It has fully ratified the UMDO charter, establishing it as basic inter-micronational law within their relations
  3. Abides all micronational laws put in place by the UMDO
  4. Can send at least 1 delegate to the UMDO formal venue to engage in diplomatic activities (discussions, meetings, summits, etc.)

If a nation has been accepted as a member, it is known as a “provisional member”. To become a full member state, they must:

  1. Be active on the server for at least two weeks
  2. Attend at least two commission sessions
  3. Have at least a first draft of a constitution, and put it in a constitution library within the UMDO official venue

They then must be approved by the Executive and Presiding officers.

Observers

If a micronation/sovereign state wishes to be associated with the UMDO but does not wish to become a full member state, they can apply for observership (the same terms and conditions apply). Observership can be removed by the commission, and is granted at the consent of the Executive.

Provisional Members

Provisional members are micronations that are seeking full membership of the UMDO. To become a provisional member, said micronation must apply using the official form (at the bottom). The application will be reviewed in a Commission session, and if they are admitted, they are a provisional member for two weeks. To become a full member state, they must:

  • Be active on the server for at least two weeks
  • Attend at least two commission sessions
  • Have at least a first draft of a constitution, and put it in a constitution library within the UMDO official venue

Full Member States

Full member states are the majority of the micronations within the UMDO. They are entitled to voting within the commission, participating and running in UMDO elections, vote on legislation, bills, and applicants, and participate in projects within the UMDO.
