The Socialist Republics Union (SNU), also known as the Union of Estonian Latvian Socialist Republics (UESLR), was a self-proclaimed independent union situated in Estonia and Latvia, Northern Europe. It had little or no international recognition, and external observers often referred to it as a micronation. The capital city was Travaktonia.

History

The origins of the UESLR are unclear, but it was created with the aim of unifying socialist republics.

LGBTQ+

The UESLR had a negative stance towards the LGBTQ+ community. Same-sex sexual activity, recognition of same-sex unions, and being open about one's LGBTQ+ status in the military were all illegal. There were no legal protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, and laws prohibiting gender identity/expression made it impossible for transgender individuals to change their names and gender.

No LGBTQ rights: Illegal
No Same-sex sexual activity: Illegal
No Recognition of same-sex unions: Illegal
No LGBTQ people allowed to serve openly in military?: Illegal
No Anti-discrimination laws concerning sexual orientation: No legal protection

Politics and government

The UESLR was governed by a single party, and Jaanus Noormägi was its first secretary.

Political parties

The UESLR had a single political party known as the Main Party of the UELSR (MPUELSR), which was led by Jaanus Noormägi as its first secretary. The party's ideology was communism, and it was classified as a national party. The party's flag was the same as the Estonian Socialist Republic since it was the main republic. The parliament was composed entirely of members of the MPUELSR.

Foreign relations

The UESLR did not have any foreign relations, except for some limited relations with the FSR[clarification needed].

Military

The UESLR claimed to have had 16 soldiers in its military. The Marshal of the army was Jaanus Noormägi. It is unclear whether the UESLR actually had a functioning military force beyond this claim.

Geography

The UESLR was located in Estonia and Latvia, although Latvia was only partially controlled by the UESLR and was under the leadership of the UESLR's leader.

Oblasts

The UESLR consisted of three Oblasts, those being the Travaktonia Oblast, Puurmanni Oblast and the Riga Oblast.

Settlements

There were three settlements in the UESLR.
