The thane or thaness of Sandvölr was the role of leader of the Thanedom of Sandvölr. A thane’s duty is to rule over a thanedom, while a governor manages it.
History
Sandvölr was elevated to the role of thanedom on 1 December 2020. It was immediately decided that Jatvörþr Byhals would become thane.
However, Jatvörþr decided early on that he did not wish to remain thane forever, and announced that on 1 January 2021, he would abdicate as thane, and pass the title to his younger brother Julius. At 12:00 GMT on 1 January 2021, Julius was crowned Lord Julius Byhals I, 2nd Thane of Sandvölr. Jatvörþr Byhals became governor of Sandvölr. However if Julius Byhals were to abdicate or die, Jatvörþr would be first in line to reassume the position. The position was abolished on 27 February 2024.
