The People's Council of the Republic of Sonora (Spanish: Consejo Popular de la Republica de Sonora) is the lower house of the National Assembly of the Republic of Sonora. It is comprised of 18 elected officials from the various cities and towns throughout the nation through a first past the post system. Each Councilor is also the elected head of the city and town governments and hold the titles of Mayor. Currently, the People's Council is composed of 8 Patriots, 4 Liberals, and 6 Nationals with the SPP and Liberals forming a majority government coalition under the Progressive Front banner. The People's Council is responsible for hearing, drafting, and voting on legislation and for electing the heads of the opposition and the leader of the People's Council, the chairman. The People's Council is also is responsible for voting, in Joint Session with the Senate, for the Prime Minister of Sonora.
