The Secretary of State for Defence, sometimes known as the Defence Secretary, is a Secretary of State in the Government of Bastara, with overall responsibility for the Ministry of Defence. As a senior minister, the incumbent is a member of the Cabinet of Bastara.
The corresponding shadow minister is the Shadow Secretary of State for Defence.
The office is currently vacant.

The Defence Secretary's duties includes:
- Strategic Military and Defensive Operations
- Oversight of Military Intelligence
- Relations with International Partnerships
- Defence Policy, Resources and Planning
- Communications on Defence
- Oversight of the Armed Forces
Appointment
The defence secretary is nominated by the prime minister. Then it is at the discression of the monarch to appoint the officeholder. Like other secretaries of state, the defence secretary serves at the monarch's pleasure.
