Xaidia, officially the Republic of Xaidia (ROX) was a micronation located in Central Arkansas. It was surrounded by United States but had overlapping claims to Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Arkansas, Hawaii, The Bahamas, New Mexico, Florida, Oregon, and Maine. It contained 5 people (officially), all of whom resided within its borders. It contained, within its territory, (officially) 5 homes (2 of which were also claimed by New Pulaskia), and has as of now been absorbed into the Democratic Union of New Pulaskia as the Autonomous Region of Xaidia. When still its own nation, Xaidia contained several provinces spanning its claimed “island lands” and the land claimed within the United States. The known provinces are: Vermose, Peragal, Adia, Aleysia, Stitcher, and the Capital Territory. Many of these (Vermose, Peragal, Adia, Aleysia) were named after islands that they presided over. Xaidia contained a much smaller territory than Pulaskia, about 0.21 acres (0.001 sq kilometers) actually possessed by Xaidians.
General history of the region actually controlled pre-Xaidia is very similar to both New Pulaskia and Prospellas. The region was inhabited by Quapaw and Caddo natives before colonization and exploration by Europeans, leading to claims on the territory by the French and later the Spanish, followed by incorporation into the United States after the Louisiana Purchase. The region would become the State of Arkansas in 1836, slowly settled by a steady stream of Americans. Enduring the Civil War, World Wars (which the Xaidians claimed to have had a big part in) and the modern day, Xaidia was declared on an uncertain date in the spring of 2022 (likely around April or May), breaking free declaring their intentions to become a nation after seeing the great success had by New Pulaskia. The first (and only) President of Xaidia was Rebecca Davis, the Vice President was Kahlan Higgins, and the Treasurer was Ayden Tucker. The Legislative Body was the Xaidian Presidential Council (Xaidia would use many of Pulaskia’s ideas as their since they were working quite well). Xaidia had (before its unification with New Pulaskia) established an alliance with New Pulaskia through the Xaidian-Pulaskian Alliance Treaty and with Aglesia through the Xaidian-Aglesian-Pulaskian Non Agression Treaty.
Etymology
The name of Xaidia has an incredible myth behind the name (though the reality was a bit more uninteresting). The myth of the name of Xaidia is quite a product of the imagination of its founder (or possibly not according to the myth), Rebecca Davis. It goes as such: on the island of Xaidia, there lived a woman, whose name was Adia. One day, a man happened upon the island. He saw that it was shaped like an X, and found Adia living there, and so he called the name of the island, and later the nation built on it, Xadia (which would later be spelt Xaidia). In reality, the name of Xaidia was taken from the young adult show, The Dragon Prince, from the also X shaped island of Xaidia, though many like to simply use the mythical version (which doubles as the founding myth of the nation). Historically, Xaidia’s name was spelled Xadia and Echsadia (upon first contact with the Xaidians in 2022).
History
As mentioned above, the Republic of Xaidia was founded during 2022 (officially, though government claims put the date of Xaidia’s founding at least before 1914). It would slowly grow and develop until it became a part of New Pulaskia (officially) in 2023.
Pre-Xaidia
The region today known as Xaidia was formerly was formerly inhabited by Quapaw and Caddo natives, before becoming a part of the United States of America after the Louisiana Purchase, specifically the State of Arkansas. The area began to be settled in numbers in the early 1800s, and Little Rock, one of the first and largest settlements, began in the 1820s. The land was urbanized and industrialized throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, with the end of World War II being the only recognized starting date of Xaidia (by anyone other than themselves) besides 2022. This was the only known time Xaidians fought in a World War, with relatives of President Rebecca Davis fighting on both sides of the war. Following the war, Rebecca’s family would settle down long enough in the state of Colorado for Rebecca Davis to be born, slowly setting in motion the chain of events that led to Xaidia. Rebecca would be born in Denver, and her family would later move to the state of Arkansas. Skipping ahead to Rebecca’s time at Bryant Middle School, she would meet Ayden Tucker, later finding out about his nation of New Pulaskia, and would decide to create her own. Thus Xaidia became reality, and may have inspired the nation of Aglesia as well.
Early Days
The earliest remaining record of Xaidia comes from the first edition of the Pulaskian Times’ first edition. There are, however, accounts of its existence in the year of 2022, when it came into an unsigned alliance treaty with Aglesia and Pulaskia. In September 2022, the first remaining mention comes. This records Xaidia’s opposition to the Militarist movement in Pulaskia (which began drafting in case of war) and was also the first mention of Xaidian elements serving inside the Pulaskian government. It was recorded as causing “an uproar”. Another mention came soon after when Kahlan Higgins sent an email regarding the Times and military draft, the first record of her as the Xaidian Vice President. By September 30th, Rebecca Davis had been declared Minister of Education and Labor and Commerce, and she, Joseph Crumpler, and Kahlan Higgins were racing to name the new Pulaskian currency, with the Xaidians wishing to name it the “Gallon” or “Galleon”. The Pulaskian Constitution would be pulled against both sides, and eventually it was decided to keep the name “Pulaskian Dollar”. There was also a race between Rebecca and Kahlan to sign the Declaration of Independence, with Kahlan allowed to sign first due to her Vice Presidential position. It was also recorded that Rebecca might take the opportunity to tax new businesses in Pulaskia, bringing them down for government revenue (this never really came to pass). That same day, however, something new began.
Incidents and Tensions
On Friday, September 30, Kahlan Higgins steppped down as VP of Pulaskia, with Rebecca Davis begging to take the spot. She would be tentatively accepted, however Kahlan Higgins would return two days later and be accepted by the President, causing much controversy when a “vote of approval” was demanded by Rebecca. Kahlan would emerge victorious, however Rebecca spoke of her intentions to disband Xaidia and its alliance. Thanks in small part to Ayden, however, Rebecca would agree to stay and keep Xaidia around. She would, after coming back, propose a union between the nations of Pulaskia and Xaidia, and would also claim that the newly proposed Pulaskian Government Exclusion Act was targeting her exclusively and trying to force her out of the government, though these claims were not really acknowledged. She proposed a union day of the 10th of October, though this would later be pushed back due to opposition from the Pulaskian Vice President and Treasurer and the proposition of a vote on the subject. The new Pulaskian Gazette and Times would both feature the unification proposition, and Kahlan Higgins would soon create a voting form for the Exclusion Act and unification. Eventually, the votes were cast and many ties were made. The Exclusion Act would pass as a law, though it was not enforced against Rebecca, and the Union would tie, leading to discussions of a runoff vote. Progression was slow going, however, and while it was going, the Republic of Xaidia would begin the writing of its newspaper, the Xaidian Atlas. The first edition featured the planning of the unification ceremony, the switching of the official currency from the US Dollar to the Xaidian Credit, with each being worth two US Dollars, the discovery of a “new island” in the Xaidian Archipelago, which was planned to become a “beachside resort” for Xaidians, as well as the taking in of immigrants and free Spanish classes for Xaidians. Not long after, another incident would occur, one which would change everything.
Tensions With Aglesia
Xaidia’s President, Rebecca Davis, would be invited by Emperor Gavin McManigal of Aglesia (through Ayden Tucker) to an United Intermicronational Conference, the first an Xaidian and Aglesian would attend (and technically the same for Pulaskia). The planned day of the conference, the first edition of the Xaidian Atlas was officially released, and a map of Xaidia was made by Ayden Tucker. But the events later that day changed all of it. As the conference commenced, the talks started with a discussion of the Xaidian-Pulaskian-Aglesian Non-Aggression Pact, but took a very dark turn when Gavin attempted to assassinate Rebecca and Ayden, but failed to do so. He would go on to claim Kahlan Higgins had set him up, but accidentally incriminated himself, proving Kahlan’s innocence. The Xaidian Atlas would report on the incident, as well as new rights for Xaidians including being able to know why they have been pulled over or ticketed by police, and the sharing of the Pulaskian Constitution. As war drafting began in Pulaskia at this time, it is likely similar precautions were taken in Xaidia. Following this, Aglesia began a relatively undocumented war on Xaidia, with few engagements. However, this was not the highlight of the era. It was an incident, instead, with Pulaskia. Again. Upon the declaration of the tiebreaker for the Union voting, Ayden Tucker caved to Kahlan Higgins’ want of a vote instead of Rebecca’s plan of simply forcing the unification. This angered Rebecca, causing her to become very angered with Ayden and by extension Pulaskia. The situation was calmed, however, by the suggestion from Ayden to allow the Xaidian vote to be taken into account, allowing the unification to proceed. The situation was tense, though some relief was brought when Aglesia called off the attacks on Xaidia and the two nations made peace. The report of the Xaidian vote would outrage much of the Pulaskian government, with the exception being President Tucker. As the situation slowly calmed, sickness struck the two nations. Both Presidents came down with some sort of sickness, thought to be strep throat, as the Pulaskian Civil War dawned.
Standing Beside Pulaskia
The Pulaskian Civil War did not affect Xaidia directly. Rather, the Xaidians supported Pulaskian efforts to end the war, and continued to show increasing animosity towards the Aglesians as their support for the “rebels” grew. A rift also continued to grow between Joseph and Rebecca, a conflict which would later show itself during elections. As the Pulaskian Times reported, rebel intentions did not seem to meddle with Xaidia or threaten it, though Xaidian technically was at war with the Aglesians and “rebels” due to the Xaidian-Pulaskian Alliance Treaty. They would also be drawn into war with the new nation of Saidlund after their declaration of war on Pulaskia. Xaidia, however, remained mostly peaceful. The “new island” of Xaidia was christened “Aleysia”, and was intended to be “welcoming tourists and have its own amusement park”, and a “man-made land bridge” that was being constructed between Pulaskia and Xaidia. Soon after, the last edition of the Xaidian Atlas was published, featuring the civil war and the threats it posed, the flu that had struck the two nations, and Kahlan Higgins’ declaration that Pulaskia would stand by Xaidia instead of Aglesia in case of war. By later November, things had settled. A small tornado struck near Xaidian territory, with President Rebecca Davis forced to take shelter. President Davis would participate in several other events, but nothing of much importance or involving Xaidia directly. Towards the end of November, Kahlan would come down with some sort of sickness, with Rebecca standing in for Vice Presidential duties in both Xaidia and Pulaskia, and the Xaidian-Pulaskian-Aglesian Non-Aggression Treaty was sent out in early January. Xaidian President Rebecca Davis never responded to the treaty, and both Xaidian and Aglesian signatures remained missing from the treaty. Soon after, there was more talk of restarting the Xaidian Atlas, though this was never realized.
Age of Oppression in Xaidia
Xaidia suffered just as badly as Pulaskia and Aglesia during the Age of Oppression. The assigned seating battle would greatly impact Xaidia, splitting off almost all contact with the country from outsiders. Snow and ice in early February would also affect Xaidians. As Pulaskian elections began to approach, the thought of uniting Xaidia and New Pulaskia quickly regained momentum. Recess separation by gender nearly tore through Pulaskian-Xaidian relations, however, the nation of Xaidia itself was not torn, seeing as how much of Xaidia’s population was female. However, the largest changes came in early March. On March 6, the Pulaskian Council met, for a belated February meeting. In an absolute landslide, it was officially decided to integrate Xaidia into New Pulaskia, as the Autonomous Province of Xaidia, with full lawmaking freedom. This action officially ended the Republic of Xaidia’s existence, and began an entirely new era in Xaidian history.
Government and Politics
Xaidia was governed by a strong government in a republic structure, not dissimilar to the government of Pulaskia, but with major differences. Power was very centralized, with many decisions made by Rebecca Davis (President) without the people’s input. Many of said decisions were minor, however, and major decisions were put to a vote. The head of state and government was the President, with the second-in-command Vice President and a Treasurer. Due to Xaidia’s smaller population, there were no Ministries. There was also no equivalent to the Presidential Council in Xaidia.
President
The president was the elected head of state and government of Xaidia. They, along with the other political officers, was elected every year by the people of Xaidia. They were responsible for maintaining unity within the Republic and keeping the peace in micro national and international affairs, as well as managing the nation. The term of the president was renewable for as long as they were elected by the people’s consent. The president did have veto power, which was normally unable to be overridden. The president of Xaidia at the time of official unification was Rebecca D.
Vice President
The vice-president was the second in command to the president. They were, just like other government officers, elected annually. They were second in command to the President, and also sometimes advised them. They were also responsible for filling the role of the President if they resigned or was ill. The Vice President at the time of official unification was Kahlan H.
Treasurer
The treasurer presided over government money spending, tax collection, and budget management. They secured the funds of the government and presided over the treasury, which allowed for control of government spending. The treasurer at the time of official unification was Ayden T.
Legislature
As far as we know, from historical records, Xaidia had no real legislative body, with decisions mostly made by the President and Vice President.
Administrative Regions
Xaidia’s administrative regions were, and still are, relatively unknown. Several Xaidians islands have been mentioned, and through these it is assumed Xaidia consisted of the regions Aleysia, Peragal, Vermose, and Xaidia. We also know that the provinces of “Stitcher” and the Capital Territory existed, from documents mentioning them.
Law and Order
Xaidia was mainly serviced by the Pulaskian National Police Force (NPF), headed by Police Chief Dia Bird, and the Pulaskian Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Kahlan Higgins. These two organizations continue to serve Xaidia within Pulaskia.
Foreign Relations
Beyond Pulaskia, Aglesia, and Kalossia, it is relatively unknown what Xaidia’s foreign relations and/or policies were. Relations were very good with Pulaskia, with the Xaidian-Pulaskian Alliance Treaty having been signed and the Xaidian-Pulaskian-Aglesian Non-Aggression Treaty having been in the works at the time of Xaidia’s annexation. Kalossia had similar relations, though they were relatively undeveloped due to Kalossia’s relatively new status. However, unlike Kalossia and Pulaskia, things were entirely different with Aglesia. At best, relations were frosty, and at worst, Xaidia was at war with Aglesia. This relationship was in almost constant flux, but Xaidian distrust of Aglesia only grew from the beginning, despite Pulaskian attempts to calm the situation. Xaidia was formerly in a technical alliance with Aglesia as of early 2022, known as the Triple Alliance, but this alliance was relatively unacknowledged.
Military
Xaidia had no official military, regularly utilizing its small population to combat invaders and on occasion utilizing the Pulaskian Army in the defense of Xaidian territory. Xaidia had no military or Air Force either.
Geography
Many officially recognized maps of Xaidia depict the Xaidian Isles, a fictional string of islands likely located in the Pacific Ocean. The archipelago includes the islands of Xaidia, Peragal, Vermose, and Aleysia. Little is known about the individual islands, though it is known that Xaidia contained the capital, Stitcher City, and the old capital, Alexandria, and Aleysia was planned to contain an amusement park (though it is unknown whether or not this was built). The Isles are known to be both mountainous and tropical, with pristine beaches and clear blue water defining Xaidia’s coastline.
Climate
The climate of Xaidia remains relatively unknown, and is likely warm and humid year-round. The Isles have gone unmentioned for quite some time, and it is possible that the fictional islands have been abandoned as of now, so the Xaidian climate is likely similar now to the Pulaskian climate, with many Xaidians now residing in the Bryant area. The old nation, as mentioned above, did lay claim to many areas of the United States, but since annexation, all Xaidian claims outside of Arkansas have been abandoned.
Demographics
Culture and Languages
The official language of Xaidia is English, with 100% of the population being native English speakers. All government business was written and conducted in English, and it was the only commonly spoken language among the populace. Some Spanish was spoken by a few select residents, and about 40% of the population spoke Spanish well enough to engage in rough conversation with other Spanish speakers. Swedish, Portuguese, and French were also spoken by a select few. The culture, meanwhile, was heavily influenced by American culture, with the population celebrating Christmas, the 4th of July, Halloween, etc, as well as celebrating other dates, such as Xaidian Independence Day.
Population
The population of Xaidia, at the time of unification, stood at 4, with all citizens having been eligible to vote in annual elections. Most Xaidian citizens at the time of unification lived in the Pulaski/Saline County area of Arkansas, but regularly travel elsewhere. Many had mixed ancestry as Hispanic/Latino, German, Hungarian, Dutch, French, English, African, Irish and other groups.
Economy and Labor
The population of Xaidia was relatively young at the time of the unification, and had not yet been able to diversify their economy. Imports from the United States were almost everything imaginable, from clothing to food to electronics and art supplies. Xaidians helped run the Pulaskian Wax Makers, a business that sculpted animals from wax, which they then sold. The business shuttered long before unification, and has remained closed since.Xaidia produced little in the way of exports with exception of the wax figures, but this was made up for after unification by Pulaskian exports of multiple items.
