Mendersia, official name Principality of Mendersia (Czech: Knížectví Mendersko; Mendersian: Keissenen Mendersye) is a micronation located in the Czech town - Žatec. The formation of this principality is dated to 11 February 2021 at 12:30 (0:30 PM). This principality was preceded by the Provisional Republic of Mendersia. According to the constitution, Mendersia is a (parliamentary) semi-constitutional monarchy.

History

Planning and formation

In late January/February 2021, Eric Smith began thinking about starting his new micronation. The idea crossed his mind, but it didn't happen.

The Kybistani dictator's consideration of handing over the Kybistani Protectorate of Mendersia to Eric Smith once again originated before the Kybistani-Wistonia crisis, but the offer was not offered to Smith until this crisis. Smith accepted the offer after some time. He then worked with Jakub z Vítku on the reform of Mendersia and Mendersia became a principality. Eric Smith became monarch, Jakub z Vítku became regent, and the constitution was approved.

History

Early era

Immediately after the establishment of the principality, new citizens were added to Mendersia. However, Mendersia still lacked a national emblem. It was proposed after a few days by Jakub z Vítku, and approved by five votes (all citizens at the time). Later, the first political parties Monarchists and Technocrats were founded. The next day, the Freedoms and Constitutionalist parties were also founded, led by Jakub Grünfeld, the regent. The Office for the Protection of Democracy was founded - Smith, Göth and Šťastný apologized for the times of the First Mendersian Republic. Both thanks to the Law on definitive reconciliation with history, passed on 21 February 2021.

Period of brief inactivity

Göth decided of his own accord to leave Mendersia on 22 April 2021, thus ending the Monarchists. On 2 May 2021, the Law about diplomacy was passed, strengthening the powers of the Council of the Nation in the area of diplomacy. Furthermore, there was a brief period of inactivity.

Turn of July and August

At the end of July, Mendersia was revived. On 14 July, Štěpán Kutnix I., the chairman of the SSM, also left Mendersia, but returned to Mendersia on 1 August. On 22 July 2021, two laws were passed, the Law about national holidays and the Law about national symbols. Not long after, on 24 July, the Charter of Civil Liberties and Rights was approved and a referendum on Mendersian entry into the Council of the Micronations began, which ended the next day with 66.7% (2 votes) in favour of entry and 33.3% (1 vote) in favour of later entry. Monarch Eric Smith of Mendersia and the Duke of Firburg, Chairman of the Freedoms, Štěpán Kutnix I. established the Council of Micronations in Kutná Hora in a joint meeting by signing the Treaty on the Functioning of the Council of the Micronations.

Government

Council of the Nation

Legislative power in Mendersia belongs to the Council of the Nation, which is a unicameral parliament and sits with all citizens, as there are few citizens in Mendersia. Despite this, citizens can form political parties.

Democracy in Mendersia

The safeguard of democracy sprouts in the Office for the Protection of Democracy, which also verifies the claims of parties and citizens. The idea of democracy - rule by the people - is very much fulfilled in Mendersia, as each citizen can decide how to vote in a vote of the Council of the Nation regarding a given law, amendment, or the like.

Current top leaders

The highest officials of Mendersia include monarch and regent.

Monarch

Standard of the Monarch.

The tale of Boreš

Thanks to the mythical rescue of Žatec, the mythical Boreš is the patron saint of Mendersia. The full story is below.

A long, long time ago, one St. John's Day around midnight, a master carpenter from Žatec was returning home through the silent streets of the city. Suddenly he saw a strange procession of hundreds of little men in hoods emerging from the open cemetery gates and wandering with blue lights in their hands towards the Ohře River, where they disappeared into the nets by the shore. The carpenter did not keep this horrible experience to himself and the very next day he told everyone he met about his nighttime story. But few people believed him, for the master carpenter, as a frequent visitor to the town's gossip, was not generally trusted. But not a week passed before the first alderman himself saw the same procession, and as he was a man of respectability, his words could not be doubted. Fear came over the town. Even the pontiff had abdicated, and there was no one to take his place... It wasn't until the end of October that a certain Boreš volunteered to be the town clerk. As soon as it was dark, he began to walk the crowded streets of Žatec. After eleven o'clock, he went up to the walls, and when he looked towards the river, he froze. A whole army of ghosts stood before the walls as if ready to attack! In a moment, however, the fog obscured his view, and he saw nothing till morning. The Zhatecan conseillers did not know what the ghost army was up to. So they sent two robbers sentenced to death, Shiba and Hrobek, to investigate. If they returned in good health and found out what the ghosts wanted to do, their lives would be spared. Shiba and Tomb sneaked out of the city undetected through a side gate, and indeed managed to overhear the call of several little men. They understood from him that they were going into town at midnight the next night, which was the day of the soul.

On All Saints' Day the whole of Zatec was preparing for a night raid. Many escaped, others barricaded themselves in their houses, only the night watchman Boreš stayed out after dark. He had to walk the streets as his duty required, and after eleven o'clock he went up to the walls again. He perceived that the ghostly army was preparing to invade the city through the Prague Gate, for there were lights flashing in dense ranks behind him, and the rest were joining them. A minute before midnight they were all standing quite still as a single stream, as if waiting for the command to attack. Boreš thought no longer. Four times he struck the trumpet mightily in all directions, and just as midnight began to strike, he cried in a strong voice: "All good spirits, sleep in peace!" In an instant the whole army disappeared, and only the flickering lights remained, which, without a sound, moved, passed through the closed gate, and made straight for the churchyard. The cemetery gates creaked open and one by one they disappeared into the holy field. Thus the strange siege of Žatec by the ghosts of its own dead came to an end, and the people of Žatec erected a statue of the valiant Boreš on the fountain in front of the town hall as an eternal reminder.
