Ministers responsible

The Prime Minister's Office is the ministry of government in HM Government of Norton that is responsible for carrying out general administration, parliamentary relations, regulation of the civil service and assisting the Prime Minister of Norton in their duties. The Prime Minister's Office helps the prime minister to establish and deliver the government's overall strategy and policy priorities, and to communicate the government's policies to Parliament, the public and international audiences.

It is composed of various units that support Cabinet committees and which coordinate the delivery of government objectives via other departments.

History

During the republican constitution, the department originally existed as the Office of the President and Government Structure, with a nearly identical portfolio - however it did not have responsibility for parliamentary affairs or regulation of the civil service. The current department (and it's responsibilities) were created upon the proclamation of the Kingdom, merging the Office of the President and Government Structure with the Nortonian Civil Service Board and the Parliamentary Affairs Office. The decision was made in order to streamline the federal government.

Duties

The Prime Minister's Office is the department that assists the Prime Minister in matters of administration.

The department's responsibilities and duties in the broadest sense are:

  • Supporting collective government, helping to ensure the effective development, coordination and implementation of policy;
  • Supporting the National Security Council and the Joint Intelligence Organisation, coordinating the government's response to crises and managing Norton's cyber security;
  • Promoting efficiency and reform across government through innovation, transparency, better procurement and project management, by transforming the delivery of services, and improving the capability of the Civil Service;
  • Political and constitutional reform.
