The Parliament Act 2024 is a constitutionally important Act of the Parliament of Florenia which governs the functioning of parliament and Florenia’s legal process. Confirming parliament’s supremacy and direct democratic composition as laid out in the Resolution on Florenian Government, the act reconstitutes the legislature which had been suspended with the November Declaration in 2016.
The Parliament Bill was introduced by Nathan on 7 January 2024 in the new parliament’s first sitting; all Florenian citizens were invited to participate in a digital venue. Following discussion, it was adopted on the morning of 9 January and received royal assent on 11 January, immediately coming into force.
The Act enforces parliament’s oversight powers over the Council of State and the government, affirms the right of all citizens to participate in parliament as members, and establishes consensus decision—making as a governing principle, providing for majority vote in the case of deadlock. It provides for the optional election of a moderator to guide proceedings. The Act also assigns certain functions to the Council Office related to record keeping and the publication of laws.
The Parliament Act is among the fundamental statutes and conventions which comprise Florenia’s uncodified constitution; it was the first Act adopted by the new parliament.
