The monarchy of Cania is the head of state and ruler of the Kingdom of Cania who wields absolute power. The monarch also serves as head of the Canian royal family. The monarch is known as the King or the Queen and is addressed as "His/Her Majesty" and the title of Defender of the Faith in their influential role over the Church of Cania.
Powers
The monarch of Cania is not bound by a constitution and does not have restricted power. The monarch is granted absolute power based upon divine right theory. The monarhcy is the most powerful office in the kingdom. For example, the monarch can pass decrees, dissolve parliament, appoint governments or rule the nation without support from a government or privy council, grant royal ascent to or veto laws proposed by parliament.
Role
By convention, the monarch has some specific duties they carry out despite their absolute power. These duties include:
- Appointing the Prime Minister of Cania as well as All Other Cabinet Ministers
- Appointing Privy Council Members
- Appointing Senior Church Ministers
- Commander-in-Chief of National Armed Forces
- Vetoing Legislation or Granting it Royal Assent
- Passing Royal Decrees
History
The monarchy is the oldest formed office and title within the kingdom. It was established on 21 February 2023.
Succession Laws
The monarchy follows male-preference primogeniture. The first-born son typically becomes heir apparent and is given the title of Crown Prince of Cania which plays an important role in aiding the monarch in national politics.
