The Minister of Defence, officially the Minister of Defence of East Galway, was the senior minister and head of the Department of Defence. The Minister was appointed by the President on advice of the Premier of East Galway. The first minister was Thomas Jacobs, who was appointed by Premier Jan Kotoński. The Minister was responsible for coordinating the defence of the republic from the threats internal and external as set down by the First East Galway Constitution.
