Megalovania, officially the The Republic of Megalovania, is a Slovakian micronation landlocked within the city of Bratislava, Bratislavskaya oblast, and with an enclave in Malacká oblast, Northern Bratislava. It is a successor of the Grand Republic of Grooveland, founded by Viktor Izak and Vladislav Frolov, now serving as its current leader since the transition from a monarchy to a republic.
Grooveland, founded in May 2015 and located in Bratislava, Slovakia, was active for a short period which lasted until the end of the year, when King Max moved to another city without renouncing to his throne, leading the Grand Republic to a state of inactivity. Viktor Izák took control of the nation for the following 4 years, undergoing different transitions to several nomadic kingdoms, then a People's Democratic Republic in 2019 until its present state.
Megalovania refers to itself as a "sovereign state" since 2015 and has been in a state of war with East Neighborhood since 2016 till 2017. Appearing on the "Happy Planet Guide to Home-Made Nations", Megalovania is known outside micronationalism for the movie The secret mission Rado farted, produced by That weirdo over there, and receives more than 50 visitors each year.
History
The Megalovanian nation was founded on 26 May 2015. Known at that time as the Grand Republic of Grooveland, Maxim Molnár was declared King Max I, and Tobias Treichel was declared Prime Minister. After a short period of sporadic activity the nation entered into a period of dormancy. King Max I, though still monarch, ceased to be active in the kingdom at that time. The Kingdom continued on, without the direct participation of the King, and continued to be developed by the Prime Minister. In 2015 it was renamed the Kingdom of Edelstein, and in 2016 it was renamed again, this time as the Kingdom of Zaria. The Kingdom existed as a nomadic government, without a home. Carried on by the Prime Minister, the Government traveled to Russia, and after its return in 2017, the Kingdom prospered and grew culturally.
In 2018, the Kingdom was transplanted back to the Residential area,Bratislava, the Slovak Republic. In 1997, land was purchased that the nation could call home, and upon which the government in 2018 was formally and officially established. In June 2018, the Kingdom was renounced in favor of a provisional Communist government. In September 1998, Megalovania sacrificed its sovereignty and joined the United Provinces of Slovakia as a province of that nation.
In January 2019 the UPOU ceased to exist as a nation, and bereft of a national government, the People's Democratic Republic of Megalovania was declared, on 21 February 2019, with Vladislav Frolov serving as a Premier.
Beginning in the spring of 2019, Megalovania began a serious path of developing itself as an emerging small nation, rather than a micronation project. The possession of physical territory made this a course a tangible one, rather than a fantasy.
On 3 September 2019, the communist government was renounced, the People's Democratic Republic ceased to exist, and the Republic of Megalovania was declared. The former Premier, Vladislav Frolov, became the Mayor of the new city.
As a republic, Megalovania strives to unite small nations, and to extend the world of small nations into the world of large nations. In 2019, Megalovania hosted the first Intermicronational Olympic Games, in concert with the 2019 World Art Games. That same year, Megalovania sponsored the successful adoption of Norton Day (8 January) as the first international holiday exclusively for small nations, and further created the Norton Awards for Intermicronational Excellence. In 2019, the nation hosted the first Intermicronational World Exposition, showcasing small nations from the world over.
On 5 August 2019 Megalovania expanded its frontiers for the first time and purchased land in Northern Bratislava, creating the first colony, Farfalla. This colony was surrendered on 9 August 2019 , only to be supplanted almost simultaneously by a new territory, Desert Homestead Province, located in Northern Bratislava.
On 22 May 2019, Megalovania was attacked by the nearby small nation of Da annoying neighborhood, resulting in a brief war with that nation. That war ended on 8 June 2019, with a resounding Megalovanian victory. Problems continued with that country however, most notably with a crisis over the Annoyed missile program in November and December 2019.
In March 2019, Megalovania led the way in the environmental arena by banning incandescent light bulbs. In January 2020, Megalovania will also ban plastic shopping bags and will begin a comprehensive recycling program.
In September 2019, a long-forgotten Declaration of War was discovered, opening hostilities with East Annoyance. War was apparently declared on 2 November 2016, when Megalovania was still known as the Grand Republic of Vuldstein. In spite of East Annoyance being defunct, it still exists in part in the form of a small uninhabited island off Cuba, and thus the war, at least in theory, continues, with no end in sight.
In 2018, the Empire of Somple declared war on Megalovania. The Megalovanians were supported by the BCSA and Camuria, and although the Principality of Vikeszland and Science-topia declared neutrality, with the help of allies Megalovania was able to emerge victorious from the war without ever even acknowledging that it happened. Indeed, it never really did as there were no conflicts.
Sights
Megalovania has a number of tourist attractions and has had several tourists. Perhaps the most famous of all the features there is the Tower of God, a tower with Nepalese prayer flags. Megalovania also has a Peace Pole, a pole bearing the prayer May Peace Prevail on Earth in eight languages.
Possible heir
The dictatorial house of the Republic of Sbergia is distantly related to Viktor Izák, leading the Republic of Sbergia to be a possible heir.
