The Representative of Vishwamitra to Kingdom of Thailand (Hindi: थाईलैंड अधिराज्य में विश्वामित्र के प्रतिनिधि, Thai: ผู้แทนรัฐวิศวามิตรประจำราชอาณาจักรไทย), formerly known as the Ambassador of Vishwamitra to the Kingdom of Thailand is the official representative of the Rashtradhyaksh and the government of Vishwamitra in Thailand and the head of the representative office in Thailand. The representative is appointed by the Rashtradhyaksh at the recommendation of the Minister of External Affairs. The position is currently held by Albert George Philip since 25 October 2024.
The representative and chief of mission is a member of the diplomatic corps of Vishwamitra. Vishwamitra unilaterally recognized Thailand by a presidential decree on 1 January 2017, however, since the recognition is not currently reciprocated, the position is - at present - unaccredited, and serves a primarily ceremonial role. The duties of the representative includes representing the interests of the Rashtradhyaksh and the government of Vishwamitra in Thailand and catering the interests of the non-residential (overseas) citizens of Vishwamitra residing in Thailand or are of Thai origin.
The position was first created on 22 December 2020 along with the missions in the Bangladesh and the United Kingdom, and Eun Jo was appointed as the inaugural ambassador to Thailand. He was replaced on 11 October 2022 by Albert George Philip. The position of the representative was created on 25 October 2024.
History
The position of the ambassador was first created on 22 December 2020 along with the creation of a full-fledged mission. The first ambassador was Eun Jo who served in office until being succeeded by Albert George Philip on 11 October 2022.
In a cabinet decision, the regular diplomatic missions accredited to macronations which are unilaterally recognized by Vishwamitra were reorganized to honorary status on 8 May 2023. Thereupon, the ambassador was re-designated as honorary ambassador. Philip continued to serve as honorary ambassador in Thailand until the mission's dissolution on 28 February 2024 following a decision of the Ministry of External Affairs to dissolve all honorary missions, thereby discharging all honorary diplomats from their office.
The representative office in Thailand was re-established on 25 October 2024 and Albert George Philip was re-appointed as the head of the mission.
