The Representative of Vishwamitra to Romania (Hindi: रोमानिया में विश्वामित्र के प्रतिनिधि, Romanian: Reprezentant al Vishwamitra în România), formerly known as the Ambassador of Vishwamitra to Romania is the official representative of the Rashtradhyaksh and the government of Vishwamitra in Romania and the head of the representative office in Romania. The representative is appointed by the Rashtradhyaksh at the recommendation of the Minister of External Affairs. The position is currently held by former Prime Minister Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu since 12 August 2024.
The representative and chief of mission is a member of the diplomatic corps of Vishwamitra. Vishwamitra unilaterally recognized Romania by a presidential decree on 1 January 2017, however, since the recognition is not currently reciprocated, the position is - at present - unaccredited, and serves a primarily ceremonial role. The duties of the representative includes representing the interests of the Rashtradhyaksh and the government of Vishwamitra in Romania and catering the interests of the non-residential (overseas) citizens of Vishwamitra residing in Romania or are of Romanian origin.
The position was first created on 30 December 2020 with the appointment of Tudor Alessandro as the ambassador to Romania. The position of the representative was created on 12 August 2024.
History
The position of the ambassador was first created on 30 December 2020 along with the creation of a full-fledged mission. The first ambassador was Tudor Alessandro who served in office until his honourable dismissal on 5 February 2021. Upon his dismissal, Cristian Dobrev was appointed as the ambassador who further remained in office until his removal on 22 September 2021. Ested Vlasyn, was thereupon appointed as the ambassador and later also served as the Minister of External Affairs during his tenure. He served in office until his resignation in March 2022.
Following the resignation of Ested Vlasyn on 15 March 2022, former Prime Minister Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu and then serving Rajyapal of Basistha, was appointed as the Ambassador to Romania with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Moldova. In a cabinet decision, the regular diplomatic missions accredited to macronations which are unilaterally recognized by Vishwamitra were reorganized to honorary status on 8 May 2023. Thereupon, the ambassador was re-designated as honorary ambassador. Snagoveanu continued to serve as honorary ambassador in Romania until the mission's dissolution on 28 February 2024 following a decision of the Ministry of External Affairs to dissolve all honorary missions, thereby discharging all honorary diplomats from their office.
The representative office in Romania was re-established on 12 August 2024 and Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu was re-appointed as the head of the mission for the second time.
