The Vishwamitran Ambassador to the Commonwealth of Queensland is the official representative of the Rashtradhyaksh of Vishwamitra and the government of Vishwamitra to the monarch and the government of Queensland. The ambassador is appointed by the Rashtradhyaksh at the recommendation of the Minister of External Affairs. The position is held by Abhiraj Kar, Prince of Sahaseendra who has been in office since 22 September 2021.
Unlike the representative offices in the macronations, the diplomatic missions accredited to the recognized states are full-fledged and often non-residential. The position is regarded as one of the most prestigious posts in the Foreign Service due to the special relationship between Vishwamitra and Queensland.
History
Formal bilateral relations between Vishwamitra and the Commonwealth of Queensland, formerly the Kingdom of Queensland, were established on 15 September 2020. The relations were upgraded to strategic level, closer cooperation and friendship on 15 September 2021.
In a move to further to strengthen the diplomatic relations between both states, it was mutually agreed to establish non-residential full-fledged diplomatic missions in both nations and reciprocate envoys of their highest rank to each other. Subsequently, Farhaz Hazarika, then Minister of Home Affairs, was appointed the inaugural ambassador of Vishwamitra to Queensland on 25 April 2021 and presented his credentials to King Baudouin. The same was reciprocated by Queensland with the appointment of Sir Michael David Augustus, a former minister in the Queenslandian government, as the Ambassador to Vishwamitra, who has since then been in office.
Hazarika continued to serve as the ambassador until being recalled on 22 September 2021, following his appointment as the prime minister earlier the same month. He was succeeded by Prince Abhiraj Kar as the ambassador, and has since then been in office.
Duties
The ambassador's main duty is to present Vishwamitran policies to the government of Queensland and its people, as well as report Queenslandian policies and views to the federal government of Vishwamitra. The ambassador serves as a primary channel of communication between the two nations and plays an important role in treaty negotiations.
