The Consul-General and Chief of Mission of Vishwamitra in South Carolina (Hindi: दक्षिण कैरोलिना में विश्वामित्र के महावाणिज्यदूत तथा मिशन प्रमुख‎) is the official representative of the Rashtradhyaksh and the government of Vishwamitra in the state of South Carolina in the United States and the head of the consulate-general office in South Carolina. The position is currently vacant and was last held by Benjamin Levinson in 2024.

The consul-general and chief of mission is a member of the consular corps of Vishwamitra. Vishwamitra unilaterally recognized the United States by a presidential decree on 1 January 2017, however, since the recognition is not currently reciprocated, the position is - at present - unaccredited, and serves a primarily ceremonial role. The duties of the representative includes representing the interests of the Rashtradhyaksh and the government of Vishwamitra in South Carolina and catering the interests of the non-residential (overseas) citizens of Vishwamitra residing in South Carolina. The consul-general reports to the Representative to the United States and serves on their behalf in South Carolina.

The position was first created on 2 August 2021 with the appointment of Robert Smith as the inaugural consul-general. He resigned from office on 27 July 2022, and the consulate-general ceased to exist following his resignation and the duties were transferred to the embassy in Ohio. The position was re-created on 5 November 2023 with the appointment of Benjamin Levinson as honorary consul in South Carolina. Levinson served in office until the abolition of all diplomatic missions on 28 February 2024. He was re-appointed to the same position following its re-creation on 12 August 2024.

History

Flag of South Carolina

The position of the consul-general was first created on 2 August 2021 along with the creation of a consulate-general in South Carolina. The first consul-general was Robert Smith who served in office until his resignation on 27 July 2022. Following his resignation, the consulate-general was closed as no appointment was made and the jurisdiction was transferred back to the embassy in Ohio.

In a cabinet decision, the regular diplomatic and consular missions accredited to macronations which are unilaterally recognized by Vishwamitra were reorganized to honorary status on 8 May 2023. On 5 November 2023, the honorary consulate in South Carolina was created and Benjamin Levinson was appointed to the position who remained in office until the dissolution of all honorary missions on 28 February 2024.

The consulate-general office in South Carolina was re-established on 12 August 2024 and Benjamin Levinson was re-appointed as the head of the mission for the second time.
