Flight lieutenant Jonathan Fairbank is a military officer, former Baustralian sergeant major, and former statesman. He served as speaker of the House of Commons, and candidate for the 2020 Conservative leadership election before his resignation shortly after.
Political career
In the Parliament of Baustralia, he served under Lord John Timpson as the Speaker of the House of Commons and Secretary of State for Justice. During the brief premiership of Aidan McGrath, he served as the Shadow Leader of the House of Commons and Shadow Secretary of State for Justice. Intending to resign, when Nick Sullivan took premiership, he did not take any responsibilities other than the MP for Smithfield-East.
He briefly was a candidate in the 2020 Conservative leadership election before dropping his campaign, and shortly after the election, resigning.
Military career
Enlisting in His Royal Air Force, Fairbank served with 1 Squadron HRAF, earning a promotion to Warrant officer and served as squadron warrant officer. He was selected in 2020 to take the position of Baustralian sergeant major, to replace Lady Smith who was selected to take the post of Director of Music. He held this position until 5 February 2021, commissioned as Flying officer, and assuming the position of Deputy Commanding Officer, 1 Squadron HRAF. He was succeeded by naval warrant officer Mara Arthur.
