The insurgency in Ondernaming, was a militant insurgency that were aimed to abolish the Olovian administration of Ondernaming and intended to overthrow the Olovian government.
Background
Territorial disputes occurred between the Olovian government and so-called pro-Islamists, as they had previously in favor of gaining an independent Ondernaming under the pro-Islamist group, which was strongly refused by the Olovian government.
Following the dispute, the pro-Islamist militias have made aggression toward the Olovian government, the government have contributed with the local civilians to promote Olovian nationalism during August. The commanders of the insurgency were Saleh A.H, Mikael Gabriel Rafael, and Adnan Adi Pratama.
Insurgency
First and second riot
On 21 December 2022. Several riots occurred which were deliberated by the pro-Islamist militias among its local civilians in Ondernaming. Olovian authorities began to open a blockade towards the first riot, and have tried to repel the riot, deploying over six patrols within the region approximately.
Three weeks after the previous riot, pro-Islamist militias intentionally called another riot on the Olovian government, due to neglect by the government itself. Approximately, thirty-five school properties were damaged in a football field.
Occupation of Northeastern Ondernaming
On 5–6 January 2023. Northeastern Ondernaming regional territories were occupied by the pro-Islamist militias, led by Syaifullah Ferry, intentionally committing hostility and militant actions toward local civilians, most of them began to lose trust in the pro-Islamists, which exaggerated hostility towards them.
Following the occupation, the Olovian government does not recognize the existence of a pro-Islamist group state. Local patrols have informed the government after the occupation. Neighboring locals have also expressed support for the Olovian government and its patrols in the region.
Failed assassination attempt on Saleh A.H
On 27 January, 2023, at around 13:29 PM (UTC+7), a planned assassination attempt, carried out by Syaifullah Ferry on Olovian president Saleh A.H by pro-Islamists failed on Northeastern Ondernaming. The assailant attempted to stab him in the waist with a utility knife. The attempt had been planned for over a month before the incident occurred. The pro-Islamists referred to the unsuccessful assassination as "Jumat Gelap" (English: Dark Friday). Some militias claimed that it was rather a street fight than an assassination attempt.
Olovian counteroffensive and recapture of Northeastern Ondernaming
On 12 February, 2023, the Olovian president Saleh A.H ordered then Ondernaming governor Mikael Gabriel Rafael to launch a counteroffensive on the pro-Islamist group militias in the Northeastern Ondernaming area, which involved likely eight Olovian soldiers and two Phojam militias.
Northeastern Ondernaming was successfully recaptured by the Mikael-led Olovian soldiers from the pro-Islamist group on 27 February, 2023, . The recapture resulted in Fhauzan Amrizal facing public criticism within the group due to their outpost being occupied by Olovian-Phojam forces.
Retreat of the pro-Islamist group (Syarat Penyerahan)
On 1 March 2023, a former Olovian soldier and commander of the pro-Islamist group, Zaf'ar Saputra, called for the surrender of the group and planned to cease any further attack on the Olovian soldiers. Following the resolution, Syarat Penyerahan (English: Terms of Surrender) has been proposed to be signed on 2 March 2023.
An announcement regarding the surrender was announced by Saleh A.H, on the Discord server of Olov. He also announced that the signing will be delayed until 5 March 2023.
On 5 March 2023, Fhauzan Amrizal, a pro-Islamist militia, informed Saleh A.H that he would be replacing Zaf'ar's position, to take action and full control over the signing of the surrender term. The surrender term was signed in a local district in Ondernaming, and executives of the Olovian government, including Saleh A.H and Akbar Prasetyo, officially declared it as an Olovian victory. Before the signing, Saleh A.H. printed the document of the terms of surrender from a print shop nearby.
International and domestic responses
There were international and domestic responses, especially from Qardasha, although it was not officially published.
- Islamic Sultanate of Qardasha
This conflict is incredibly saddening, the 'Islamic' rebels have no Islam within them, attacking an Islamic state. I have forgiven Olov, Saleh, and the Olovian government and opened my arms for them in brotherhood. Of course, the rebel's leader is a Shi'i, and although I am one myself, it seems he is of the extreme Rawafidh.
— Orzan bin Muhammad, Sultan of Qardasha - Olovian government
Olovian statesman and president Saleh A.H proclaimed his oration in the main district on Ondernaming, the oratory clarifies that an advocation for unity in the Olovian nation should be maintained, following the statement below:
"We shall defend the order and security of social life, maintain and advocate a sense of unity and oneness in society, increase the social solidarity of our commune, and eliminate discrimination in our society, once and for all. The formation of the pro-Islamist group were the main factors to this militant conflict, and their members are responsible for the damage in the surrounding-region of Ondernaming."
Olovian president Saleh A.H later gives a response to the domestic support, the following:
""With all due respect. I appreciate the support from the Islamic Sultanate of Qardasha, especially from our brothers Orzan bin Muhammad and Muhammad Nafiz bin Hassan. Hopefully, the conflict will be ceased less than a month."
Ondernaming governor Mikael Gabriel Rafael has also formalize his statement regarding the insurgency, following the statement below:
"Whoever started this conflict, shall be sorely punished.
