The Gulf-Atlantic Union (GAU) is a regional intergovernmental organization. Membership is limited to micronations located in the Southern United States. The goal of the Gulf-Atlantic Union is to make in-person diplomacy between members easier and to enable members to form mutually-beneficial friendships with geographically nearby nations.

History

The Gulf-Atlantic Union was originally created by Grand Duke John of Pikeland and he gauged interest from the community in this tweet where he said "Pikeland is gauging interest in creating a new YAMO called the Southeastern Conference of Micronations or SECμ. Membership is limited to the areas that comprise the SEC." King Tyler Mullins of New Athens joined him and together they created the discord server and invited the first members. The region was later expanded to include the entire Southern United States instead of just SEC states.

Meetings

On 27 August 2021, the first in-person meeting of member states took place when a representative of the Confederated Empire of Bir Tawil and Territories met with representatives of the Free Nation of New Athens, King Tyler Mullins and Former Speaker of the People Tyler Wilson.

Etymology

The original name for the Gulf-Atlantic Union was the Southeastern Conference of Micronations or SECμ. Once the founders decided to expand the region to include the entire Southern United States, they decided a new name was needed. After a lengthy process of choosing a new name, they eventually landed on the Gulf-Atlantic Union because the region spanned from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean. "Union" was chosen because members of the Gulf-Atlantic Union are not assumed to be allied together in the traditional sense, but are instead simply united together under the common goal of regional diplomacy.

Symbology

‎The logo of the Gulf-Atlantic Union is the Vergina Sun. This symbol was chosen as circles represent unity and the sixteen points of the star represent the sixteen eligible states of the Union.
