Great Officers of State (Tanaau)

In the Kingdom of Tanaau, the Great Officers of State are Ministers of the Crown who are appointed to exercise largely ceremonial state positions or to operate as members of the government. Some great officers have some military authority.

Great officers of state have been a part of the Tanaauan government since their establishment on 19 November 2023.

Offices

Lord High Steward

The Lord High Steward is the senior most great officer of state. The office has the sole power to preside over the impeachment trials of peers.

Lord High Chancellor

The Lord High Chancellor, commonly the Lord Chancellor, is the second most senior great officer of state. They often work closely with the government, particularly the Ministry of Justice. The office also has some limited judicial power, and sometimes exercises some of the monarch's judicial rights on the monarch's behalf.

Lord High Treasurer

The Lord High Treasurer is the third highest great officers of state, that supports the treasury and has jurisdiction over government finances and spending.

Lord President of the Council

The Lord President of the Council, officially the Lord President of the Privy Council, presides over the privy council. They are sometimes given other responsibilities on top of this - often holding office as Leader of the House of Commons or Leader of the House of Lords alongside the office in the privy council.

Lord Privy Seal

The Lord Privy Seal, officially the Lord Keeper of His Majesty's Privy Seal, is responsible for the monarch's privy seal.

Lord Great Chamberlain

The Lord Great Chamberlain is responsible for financial matters of the royal court, though a lot of these powers are customarily conducted by the Lord High Treasurer. The Lord Great Chamberlain also has responsibility for the parliament building and for organising the state opening of parliament.

Lord High Constable

The Lord High Constable advises the monarch in the granting of titles and honours. They command the troops partaking in coronation ceremonies and work with the Earl Marshal in conjunction with the College of Arms.

Earl Marshal

The Earl Marshal is a mostly ceremonial position, taking part in state funerals, coronations and the state opening of parliament. The Earl Marshal's most prominent role is having charge over the College of Arms.

Lord High Admiral

The Lord High Admiral is the ceremonial head of the Royal Tanaauan Navy. They are charged with authority over maritime affairs and maritime courts. The office when not in use reverts to the crown, and is often held by the monarch or members of the royal family.

History

The great officers of state were established on 19 November 2023. The offices were formed on the orders of King Colin I.
