Minister of the Crown (Tanaau)

Minister of the Crown is a constitutional and political term in the Kingdom of Tanaau describing a minister of the reigning sovereign or viceroy. The term usually indicates the office is appointed by the monarch and serves at their pleasure. As well as this, the officeholder usually advises the monarch on how to exercise their prerogative powers in relation to the minister's portfolio. A lot of ministers of the crown are ex officio members of the Privy Council.

History

The term "Minister of the Crown" in Tanaau is a constitutional one. Its existence in the Tanaauan political system is rooted in the constitution, being ratified on 17 November 2023.

Ministries

In the Tanaauan system, the monarch or viceroy is formally advised by a privy council. Ministers belong to subsets of these councils - usually a ministry. Most ministers of the crown belong to the cabinet, but not all ministers of the crown are cabinet ministers.

Ministers of the crown are appointed by the monarch, usually on the nomination of the prime minister, and serve at the monarch's pleasure.
