The Government of the Kingdom of Malpok, sometimes the Government of Malpok but officially His Majesty's Government (abbreviated to HM Government) is the central executive authority of the Kingdom of Malpok. The government is lead by the Prime Minister, who nominates all other ministers. The prime minister and all other senior ministers belong to the Council of Ministers, also known as the cabinet.

History

The government was initially formed in late October 2022 as the government of the Democratic People's Republic. However, this government was dissolved when the republic was dissolved. The government under the monarchy was established on 15 November 2022 after the establishment of the Kingdom of Malpok.

Government and Crown

The Malpokian monarch is head of state and sovereign but not head of government. While the monarchy wields absolute power, they don't always play an active role in governing society and delegate that power to the government. The monarch's power is vested in the Crown - which is the source of the Monarch and the government's executive powers.

Ministers and Departments

As of 2022, the government has 9 ministerial departments and 2 governmental offices.

In theory, ministers do not have to be members of either house of parliament as they are appointed by the monarch - but they must be able to maintain the support of at least the House of Assembly. Prime ministers can appoint non-parliamentarians but will commonly appoint from the house of assembly or house of lords.

Government in Parliament

Under the Malpokian system, by convention the government sits as members of the House of Assembly and must maintain the house's support and confidence. By convention, if a government loses the confidence of the House of Assembly it must either resign or a general election is held.

During debates on legislation proposed by the government, ministers, usually with departmental responsibility for the bill, will lead the debate for the government and respond to points made by MPs or members of the House of Lords.
