The office of prime minister is the oldest office in the nation. It is the only office that was retained after the republic was disestablished.
Appointment
The prime minister is appointed by the monarch. They can be from either house of parliament but are typically appointed from the house of assembly. By convention, the prime minister is usually the person that can command the most confidence in the house of assembly and thus is typically the leader of the political party with the most seats after legislative elections. As well as this, Parliament as a whole is allowed to nominate a candidate for the office.
