Essrina; from Ezerryen meaning Lakeside, is a municipality of the Easwegian Common Union. It forms the western portion of Bear Island and is one of the four municipalities which makeup the Easwegian Svalbard Isles Free Realm under the administrative control of the Co-operative Government. Established as a provisional district upon Independence in late 2017, the area was reorganised into its municipal form in October 2019 with small revisions since. Essrina is known for its many lakes, the holy site of Mount Furore in its southeast, and strong Ezaari tradition. Essrina borders the municipalities of Urdport to its east and the administrative capital of Boriopa Centrum to its northeast. Its capital is Liyvazun, which contains the Essrina municipal council, currently led by Archiennè.

History

Essrina, from Ezerryen meaning Lakeside, has been inhabited by Ezaari, Pomors and Icelandic sailors since 1194 when Bear Island was first discovered. It was incorporated into the Iron Commonwealth of Biarmia, a constituency of the Novgorod Republic soon after. The climate during the 13th century was warmer than it is today and there was a heavy belief amongst Ezaari shamans that the Svalbard archipelago was the Hyperborea described in Ancient Greek mythology. Therefore, Ezaari especially used the Essrina land due to its many lakes to fish, which is where its nickname of Essrina or Lakeside emerged from. Mount Furore in its southeast became a spiritual site for shamanistic faith.

Baizjillalldëng; Irish: Baile Fuála, Easway's smallest township, is noted as a place where Icelandic-Irish papars settled.

Essrina, along with the rest of Bear Island, was unofficially annexed by Sweden and Norway following a brief war in 1821. This annexation was formalised when it was recognised as part of Norway in the 1920 Spitsbergen Treaty, signed by the Western victorious powers of World War One.

When the Serpents of Easway launched the Easwegian Reawakening on 24 November 2017, Essrina was assigned as a provisional zone, which was upgraded to a district upon Independence on 19 December 2017. During this period, the now capital of Boriopa Centrum did not exist and Essrina extended far more to the north-east until late 2019.

In late 2023, parts of Mount Furore were ceded to Urdport in a series of reforms intended to quash the small-scale conflict occurring in Steinflya fueled by now defeated Kingdom - 1925.

Culture

Essrina is an important aspect of Ezaari Easwegian life and is predominately inhabited by this ethnic group.

Administrative divisions

Essrina contains two constituent prefectures (qicherrex) and five townships or clans, known in Ezerryen as Loumex. Prefectures are assigned to junior members of the council upon their election and form seats within the federal United Common Assembly legislature.

Chuoscharni

Chuoscharni, Ezerryen for silent and still, forms the northern half of Essrina. It was established by the National Electoral Commission on 31 May 2021 upon advice from Emizerri, then Grand Councillor. [2] It contains the townships of Great Grëndy to its west and Proelëcskyax to its east.

Greater Liyvazun

Greater Liyvazun (Liyvezun in Ezerryen) forms the southern half of Essrina. Named after the eponymous township, the prefecture was established by the National Electoral Commission on 17 May 2021 upon the advice of Ankel Palatinousei, former Essrina Marquis. It contains 3 prefectures, from west to east, Baizjillalldëng, Liyvazun, and Ecaalouç. Furthermore, it contains Mount Furore reserve to its southeast, which forms the Essrina half of the federal reserve of Realmsedge, headquartering Easwegian defence.
