The Khuni-XIII-Territories[a], officially the Grand Voivodeship of the Khuni-XIII-Territories, referred to in short as either the GVK, K-XIII-T, or Khunija[b], is a micronation in North America that resulted from the reorganization of the government of the Princedom of Boopaler after Waqiy al-Narjid's seizure of power in May of 2024. The country is situated between the Mercer and Tazewell counties of the U.S. states of West Virginia and Virginia, as were the State of Thejistan and Federated States of Duvall, predecessor states to the GVK. Its capital is Cunnyborea which serves as the de facto seat of the Banu Narjid royal family; with the other major royal family - the House of Leijon - ruling over the province of the Princedom of Boopaler. Neither family has any residents within the nation's claimed territory.

Following his security of power, al-Narjid appointed himself as Grand Voivode, and heavily decentralized Boopaler into multiple counties and territories. This was to intentionally create thirteen distinct territories, excluding the aquatic territory of Bolsahhanarkland.

Etymology

The nation was originally going to be called Khunistan, or "land of blood," before it was discovered that the name had already been bestowed as a nickname to the Iranian city of Khorramshahr during the Iran–Iraq War.[1] A variety of alternative names were suggested, such as: Khuniville, and the Great Khuni Voivodeship. It was ultimately decided that the nation was to be called the Khuni-XIII-Territories, in a similar vain to that of Ruyton-XI-Towns.

Many outsiders to the nation have criticized the naming protocols behind several of the territories: namely Cunnyborea, Loliland, and Minneshota. Both the Grand Voivode and Princess of Boopaler have denied any form of the names being related to any form of content, and have instead elaborated - many times - the toponymy of those regions.

Cunnyborea is a portmanteau of the Old English "cunny," an alternative spelling of cony, ultimately a word meaning a bunny or rabbit, and the suffix -borea due to the regions high elevation and mountainous terrain.

Loliland is simply named after the Danish Lolland, but with an extra "i" added between the two l's to indicate the region's official flower, the lilac.

Minneshota is named after the American state of Minnesota, but is also named after the American-Albania diplomat Agim Nesho.

History

Thejistan and Duvall

The State of Thejistan and Federated States of Duvall were both micronations previously governed by al-Narjid and groups adjacent to himself. Thejistan was initially founded in the Bir Tawil triangle as a representative democracy in August of 2022 but later relinquished that claim in January of 2023 to annex territory around Bluefield, West Virginia, al-Narjid's hometown of which he moved out of at a young age alongside his immediate family. He would however become estranged from his biological father, which is now partially recognized as the reason for the vague nature of family records in the K-XIII-T.

Thejistan would continue to function as a de facto dictatorship in tandem with the state of Hamburgersex, which was formerly only a political party that had acquired governance over a territory in Thejistan. The nation would face several crises and severe instability before eventually dissolving in December of 2023 to transform into the Federated States of Duvall. Duvall would be yet another attempt at a democratic government which would never come to fruition due to a lack of participation. Duvall would meet the same fate as Thejistan and face several coup attempts and instability before the prominent politician Gemini Alzirr would fade into obscurity. This would lead for the spot to be filled by N. N., who promptly seized control of the government and temporarily ousted the exiled al-Narjid before appointing him as Grand Vizier of Boopaler.

Foundation

The Khuni-XIII-Territories was created after Waqiy al-Narjid seized control over Boopaler, which itself was undergoing a massive rehaul in governing structure after being associated with sectionist ideologies akin to that of Thejistani Flinstonianism. This also led to decentralization of Boopaler into thirteen different territories.[2][3] Al-Narjid would appoint himself as Grand Voivode and reinstate N. N. as Princess of Boopaler, now a subject of the GVK. The union between the Banu Narjid and House of Leijon would largely remain unaffected by these changes until June of 2024, in which Boopaler would enter a state of isolation that will continue until further notice.

Politics and government

The GKV considers itself to be a successor state to Boopaler, which was the first of the Thejo-Duvallestinian nations to be a monarchy, as opposed to an attempt at creating democracy or oligarchy. Much like Boopaler, the GKV also governs through a monarchy, led by the Grand Voivode and the royal court which consists of the nobility of each of the thirteen territories.

The thirteen territories are each granted their own level of autonomy within the Voivodeship. The higher government works akin to that of feudalism within an absolute monarchy, with each member of the royal family being allocated a certain amount of titles that allow them jurisdiction over certain territories.

Law and order

Rather than being governed by a constitution as in Thejistan and Duvall, the GVK is governed through a system of royal decrees, issued by either the Grand Voivode or Princess of Boopaler.

Military

Seeing as the nation does not have any real jurisdiction over its claimed territory, the military serves strictly as a system of honorary titles. Historically, the term "Voivode" was used coequally with "Palatyn," for which the title was given to the leader of the military. In the K-XIII-T, this title was also used, before being renamed to "High Legatus" at the request of the Princess of Boopaler.

Administrative regions

The GVK consists of fourteen distinct territories on different levels. The fourteenth, Bolsahhanarkland, is often omitted from being counted as a territory due to its status as an unincorporated entity with no landmass within its borders.

The following is a list of the territories of the GVK, a majority of which lack any proper official to lead them, and are thus governed from the capital in Cunnyborea:

Economy

As other aspects of the nation, the economy is under the command of the ruling crowns. Use of the Thejistani dollar is widespread in the Khuni-XIII-Territories, despite not having been the official currency of any of its predecessor states since the dissolution of Thejistan in December of 2023.
