The Democratic Council Republic of Parklandia, commonly known as Parklandia, is a micronation and democratic council republic led by President Manuel III, currently in his third term. Parklandia declared independence between May and July 2021, during a visit to the area known as Parkland in the capital, De Heksemberg. It is notable for establishing the Empire of Koeskoesia as an online entity and co-founding the InterMicronational Organisation (IMO) alongside Wolfhaven and the Enclave Empire.

The province of Parkia is landlocked within North Brabant, The Netherlands, and includes the areas of Parkland, Dierland, the Presidential District, and Koeskoes Gebied. The other provinces, Gardonia, Pacifa, and Cariba, consist mostly of islands dispersed globally. The government is based in the Presidential District.

Etymology

The name "Parklandia" derives from "Parkland," referring to the park where the nation was originally founded.

History

Founding Era (2021)

Parklandia was founded between March and July 2021 when President Manuel, along with his cousin and younger brother, played in a park in Boxtel, now known as Parkland, within what is currently the capital De Heksemberg. Inspired by their roleplay, Manuel established a micronation called Parkland, with De Heksemberg as its capital. His cousin suggested that a small area in front of the bridge to the Heksemberg should be designated as a military zone, which remains as such today. Before the official founding, Manuel frequently visited the park, but the roleplay with his family led to the formal creation of Parklandia. At the time, Parkland included the cities of De Heksemberg, Piratentuin (unnamed at the time), and Doca (also unnamed at the time).

Inactiva Era (2022)

2022 was marked by inactivity for Parklandia, as Manuel focused on school and other personal matters. As his younger brother and cousin also spent less time outdoors, Parklandia mainly only existed in thoughts. In March 2022, while roleplaying again, Manuel considered expanding Parklandia by claiming another park, now known as Dierland.

Rebuilding Era (2023)

In early 2023, Parklandia remained largely inactive. However, in October, President Manuel rediscovered micronationalism and revived Parklandia. In November 2023, he officially renamed it the "Republic of Parklandia," marked its territory on Google Earth, and created the national flag.

Koeskoesia Era (December 2023–February 2024)

On December 5th 2023 the Empire of Koeskoesia was established, Partly by Manuel. This small new Micronation has an important mark in the history of Parklandia. When Koeskoesia was established, Manuel became President of Koeskoesia, while still being the President of Parklandia. In this time, Manuel gave a part of his power to Parklandian Council Member Mats. In the instructions on Emperor Job Markoeskoes I, he claimed land for Koeskoesia, he partly made the Discord server (that is semi active today) and he made the newssite of Koeskoesia. Manuel also made the flag and Coat of Arms of Koeskoesia, shortly after he made the Coat of Arms of koeskoesia, he finally knew how to make a good COA and made the Parklandian Coat of Arms. Shortly after Manuel wrote the first and only constitution of Koeskoesia, he wrote the Parklandian Constitution.

When the first Koeskoesian elections came on January 1st 2024, he ran for President under his Parklandian party KMOS BW, but in Koeskoesia the party was named KMOS BW Inter. When the elections close on January 7th, he tied with Gian Gijsbers with his party PvdE. After the tie in the elections with Gian, Gian won on the basis of Article 42 of the Constitution of Koeskoesia. Article 42 stated: "When a tie occurs in the elections between 2 or more candidates, the vote of the Emperor is withdrawn. If the result is still the same, the Emperor decides the result." Emperor Job Markoekoes I voted for Manuel, but after his vote was withdrawn he lost. Shortly after his loss, Manuel said he was going to retire from Koeskoesian politics so he could focus more on Parklandia.

When Gian finally was sworn in by the Emperor, Parklandia begun Operation Gouden Zon. The Parklandian ground force invaded the province Imperial District and began to take over the district. Parklandia successfully took over the capital Markoesia and gave half of the province back to the Netherlands, while keeping the other half. This retained part of Koeskoesia is now Koeskoes Gebied. The reason for operation Gouden Zon was the extremely racist behavior of the Emperor towards Manuel, by insulting half of his family.

Poast-Koeskoesia

In 2024, Parklandia became semi-active, especially between March and July. In May 2024, it transitioned to observer status in the Micronational Assembly after rejecting the new Intermicronational Law — even though Manuel introduced a bill to pass the law in Parklandia, it received only 3 out of 12 votes in the Council, failing to secure approval. On 27 Oktober 2024, Parklandia got expelled out of the MA after saying something inapropiat after Chairman Amir Yusuf said to "Hang Manuel"

Foreign relations and policy

Parklandia's first foreign relationship began in December 2023 with the Empire of Koeskoesia. Manuel III, involved in the founding of Koeskoesia, served as its first President while simultaneously leading Parklandia. During this period, Manuel delegated some authority to Parklandian Council Member Mats.

Government and politics

The politics of Parklandia are outlined in the Second Parklandian Constitution. Initially a republic, Parklandia became a Council Republic following the enactment of a new political law.

President

The President is the head of state and leader of Parklandia, but decisions are made in conjunction with the Vice-President. The President is elected by the Council.

Parklandian Council

The Parklandian Council consists of elected representatives from each province. The Council is responsible for proposing and voting on laws, managing the budget, and overseeing government activities.

Parklandian Elections

In Parklandian elections, the citizens vote for Council candidates, who go on to elect the president. There are five election rounds, each featuring five Council candidates. The two candidates with the most votes in each round advance to the Council.

Once the Council is formed with 12 members, they are sworn in the day after the final election round. Each Council party nominates a presidential candidate, resulting in 6 to 12 candidates. These candidates debate for Council votes, but Council members cannot vote for their party's candidate. The candidate receiving the most votes becomes the proposed president. If the proposed president receives approval from at least 50.01% of the voters, they are inaugurated as President of the Democratic Council Republic of Parklandia. If not, the second-place candidate becomes the Proposed President.

The President is officially sworn in two days after receiving approval from the people. Following the inauguration, the Council elects a Council President, who retains their seat as a Council member.

Political parties

In Parklandia, participation in politics is restricted to members of political parties, all of which are registered in the Parklandisch TelRegister (PTR). Establishing a new party costs 200 Arla, and entering elections requires a fee of 50 Arla.

Culture

Parklandian culture is diverse, reflecting its global presence. In Parkia, the culture primarily resembles that of the Dutch province of North Brabant with a Brazilian influence. The main language spoken is Dutch. In Gardonia, the culture blends African, French (Ardéche), and Dutch elements, with Dutch as the predominant language, followed by French.

Sports

Sport plays a vital role in Parklandia, with 96% of cities located outdoors, lacking significant buildings. The most popular sport is football, followed by Dynara and running. Football is governed by the Parklandia Football Federation (PFF).

Dynara

The national sport of Parklandia is Dynara, an easier version of volleyball played on artificial grass with a football. The largest Dynara stadium, Dynara Colosseum in PresiKantoor, is home to the clubs DVV and PresiKantoor DSV.
