Courtney, Crown Princess of Dracul (8 January 1999 – 15 August 2024), was Dracul's second Crown Princess, and next in line to the throne. Courtney began her career in micronationalism in 2023, with Dracul's Government, as the Secretary to Chancellor Bruce Cooper. She worked closely with Cooper for about a year, until his resignation.

After joining the royal family, Courtney’s influence in Dracul expanded considerably. As Crown Princess, she became a key figure in the nation’s leadership, bringing her unique perspective and strong sense of duty. Beyond her royal responsibilities, she actively participated in various national initiatives, particularly those focused on mental health and social welfare. These causes were especially important to her, and she used her position to advocate for those in need and support efforts that would positively impact the entire community.

Early life

Courtney Michelle Petree was born on 8 January 1999, in Houston, Texas, to a modest, close-knit family. From an early age, she was known for her fierce independence. Her curiosity about the world around her became a trait as she grew older. At just 15, Courtney made the bold choice to leave home. This journey marked the beginning of her quest for a deeper understanding of life. Despite the challenges of living independently at such a young age, she made her own path, gaining life experience along the way. Courtney had two brothers and a sister, and the loss of one of her brothers by suicide in 2018 had a deep impact on her.

Involvement with Dracul

In 2023, Courtney became involved with the micronation of Dracul, a pivotal moment in her life that stemmed from her close friendship with Prince Stephen, one of the nation’s founding members. Her entry into Dracul marked the beginning of a significant chapter where she quickly became a respected figure within the community. Courtney was well-regarded for her approachable and friendly demeanor, which made her a favorite among her peers. Her initial role within the micronation was as the secretary to Chancellor Bruce Cooper. In this role, Courtney’s responsibilities were multifaceted. She adeptly managed the chancellor’s schedule, organized meetings, and communicated on his behalf, handling various administrative tasks with efficiency. Her contributions were instrumental in the smooth operation of the chancellor’s office, showcasing her organizational skills and her ability to navigate complex political environments with ease.

Role as Crown Princess

Courtney’s commitment to Dracul deepened when she was adopted into the royal family by Prince Stephen, a testament to the close bond they shared. Shortly thereafter, in early 2024, she was appointed as the Crown Princess of Dracul, a position of great honor and responsibility. This appointment coincided with Princess Kassie’s hiatus from the community, and Courtney’s ascension to this role was seen as a stabilizing force within the royal family.[1]

As Crown Princess, Courtney was not just a figurehead; she took her role seriously, despite her limited public involvement. She maintained regular communication with key figures in Dracul, ensuring that she was always informed and engaged with the micronation’s activities.

Mental Health Advocacy

Courtney was known for reaching out to individuals within the community who were struggling with mental health challenges. She spent considerable time listening to their concerns, providing emotional support, and offering encouragement. Her approach was deeply empathetic, and she made it a priority to ensure that those she interacted with felt heard and understood. By forming genuine friendships with those experiencing mental health difficulties, Courtney provided a sense of hope and solidarity that was invaluable to many.

In addition to her personal interactions, Courtney played a role in organizing informal support groups where individuals could share their experiences in a safe and understanding environment. These gatherings helped foster a sense of community among participants and contributed to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues within Dracul.

Courtney’s advocacy work left a lasting impact on the micronation, promoting greater awareness and understanding of mental health. Her efforts to personally engage with and support those affected by mental health issues are remembered as a significant aspect of her legacy as Crown Princess.

Personal life

Courtney’s personal life was characterized by her vivacious spirit and her deep connections with those she loved. She was often described as the life of the party, someone who could effortlessly brighten a room with her presence. Her warmth and friendliness made her a beloved figure among her friends and family. Courtney took immense pride in her son, Alijah, whom she loved dearly. Although she did not have full custody of him, she remained a constant presence in his life. She was diligent in checking in on him regularly and made every effort to be present at his significant life events, even traveling from out of state to ensure she was there for the moments that mattered most. Her dedication to her son was a reflection of her deep love and commitment to her family.

Death and legacy

While temporarily residing in San Diego to support her fiancé during a work assignment, tragedy struck on 15 August 2024. Courtney passed away from head trauma caused by a seizure, as reported by her family.[2] Her untimely death was a profound shock to all who knew her. Courtney was discovered by her fiancé after he returned home from work, which led to an immediate police investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death. Given the geographical distance from her hometown, her remains were transported back to Houston, Texas, where preparations for her funeral and burial were undertaken.

Courtney’s passing marked a somber moment in the history of Dracul, as she was the first member of the Dracul Royal Family to pass away. In recognition of her contributions to the micronation and the impact she had on those around her, her family made the significant decision to have her interred with her crown and the national flag of Dracul. This gesture underscored the profound importance that Dracul held in Courtney’s life. Her legacy continues to live on through various initiatives and commemorations within the community, ensuring that her memory remains an enduring part of Dracul’s history.
