The Church of Cania is the established Christian Church in the Kingdom of Cania. It was established on 21 February 2023 by King Arthur I.
The most senior member of the church is the Archbishop of Cania. The governing structure of the church is based on dioceses, each presided over by a bishop. Within each diocese are local parishes. The General Synod of the Church is the highest governing body of the church.
Doctrine and Practices
The canon law of the Church of Cania identifies the Christian scriptures and Sacred Apostolic Tradition as the sources of its doctrine. The church is classified as an Orthodox Church and subscribes to Eastern Orthodox Theology.
Structure
Primates
The most senior bishop of the Church is the Archbishop of Cania. The archbishop is appointed by the monarch on the advice of the General Synod. The archbishop has the status of Primate of All Cania.
House of Lords
Some Church of Cania Ministers are guaranteed a seat in the House of Lords. The Archbishop of Cania and the bishops of the five provinces are all granted seats in the house and are permitted to vote on legislation passing through the house. They also, as Lords Spiritual, can serve in cabinet and advise the monarch on church related topics.
Crown Dependencies
The church is permitted to create new parishes and diocese for crown dependencies with the consent of parliament or the monarch.
