The August 2021 United National People's Assembly Election occurred between 15 August 2021 and 22 August 2021, due to new electoral laws being passed the UNPA was reduced from 17 seats to 11 seats. It was the 2nd legislative election in Eastasia, occurring 4 months after the 1st one.

Background

Electoral System

Eastasia uses a mixed-member proportional system. Both Daqinghe and Yungshin elect a mainland delegate, overseas delegate and regional delegate, where whichever candidate gets a plurality of the votes wins in that seat. This is paired with 5 proportional seats, whereby the number of seats represents the percentage of the proportional vote the party gets.

Electoral Alliances

Electoral pacts are common in Eastasia, with every election so far containing at least 1 such alliance. This election had 2 alliances, both of which ran joint lists and vowed to form coalition governments if elected.

Eastasian Social Reform Union
The ESRU was formed between the ESDP and Reform Eastasia, with the aim of denying the FPEU another majority in the UNPA.

Revolutionary Front
The RF was formed between the FPEU and PCP, it was the successor to PLUM which also included the ESDP.

Results

From 5pm (UTC) media sources in Eastasia began reporting the election the results, these were the officially published results. An official document of the results were later also published by the joint effort of the Election Committee and the Eastasian Central Conference[1].

Alliance Parties Leaders Constituency Seats Proportional Seats Proportional Vote
Eastasian Social Reform Union ESDP and REF Chien Chia Heng and Angus Dunn 3 3 53.2%
Revolutionary Front FPEU and PCP Su Yi-An, Benjamin Pickles and Jacoven Schäfer 3 2 40.4%
Yungshin Commune
Name Commune Parties Seat Type Vote Precentage Opponent
Wu Jian-Rei Yungshin FPEU Mainland 84.2% None
Benjamin Pickles Yungshin FPEU Overseas 73.7% Afrasiyab Jamshaid (ESDP)
Su Wei-Shuo Yungshin FPEU Regional 68.4% Muhammad Amsyar (REF)
Daqinghe Commune
Name Commune Parties Seat Type Vote Percentage Opponent
Chien Kai-Hsin Daqinghe ESDP Mainland 75.0% None
Angus Dunn Daqinghe REF Overseas 67.9% Alex Andrei (FPEU)
Zhou Zhan-En Daqinghe ESDP Regional 71.4 Charlotte Masterson (FPEU)

These results saw gains for the REF, and whilst both the FPEU and ESDP lost seats this was due to the reduction in seats within the UNPA. Most importantly, the PCP was entirely wiped out from the UNPA.
In this election, both alliances each carried a commune, with the ESRU gaining more seats on the proportional list. These were the delegates elected:
