The Armed Forces of Fatrea, sometimes known as the Fatrean Armed Forces or the Fatrean Military, are the military forces responsible for the defence of the Kingdom of Fatrea. They also represent Fatrea's interests abroad, aid in peacekeeping missions, and engage in military operations with allied states.

The armed forces consist of the Fatrean Army (the principle land warfare force), the Royal Fatrean Air Force (the principle air and space warfare force), and the Royal Fatrean Navy (the principle naval warfare force). The armed forces include regular personnel, as well as part-time reservists.

King Luke I, the Sovereign of Fatrea, is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces with officers and personnel swearing allegiance to him. However, executive authority over the armed forces is often exercised by the prime minister and the secretary of state for defence on the monarch's behalf. The prime minister (acting with the cabinet) make key decisions on the use of the armed forces. The armed forces are directly managed by the defence council.

History

While the role of commander-in-chief was established on 15 February 2024 with the ratification of the constitution, the armed forces directly were established on 16 February 2024. The armed forces have not been engaged in any conflicts.

Branches

The armed forces are split into three branches - the Fatrean Army, Royal Fatrean Air Force, and Royal Fatrean Navy. Each branch has their own specialisation but the branches work together and support each other in their roles and duties.

Army

The Fatrean Army is the ground warfare force of Fatrea. It defends Fatrea's land borders, provides royal guards, and can be deployed internally to maintain order. The army is first and foremost an infantry force, but also is the primary operator of other units such cavalry and airborne soldiers. The army can also provide border guards. The army is a versatile force taking on multiple roles as and when needed.

The army is commanded by the chief of the general staff.

Air Force

The Royal Fatrean Air Force (RFAF) is the air and space force of Fatrea. It defends Fatrean airspace and maintains air supremacy. The air force is the primary operator of Fatrean military aircraft. It also provides aerial support and reinforcement to the army and navy.

The air force is commanded by the chief of the air staff.

Navy

The Royal Fatrean Navy is the naval warfare force of Fatrea. It defends the naval borders of Fatrea, and operates any naval vessels (both submersible and surface vessels) owned by the state. The navy also aims to provide some level of air support to the Royal Fatrean Air Force - maintaining a fleet air arm. The navy can also reinforce the army during coastal invasions.

The navy is commanded by the chief of the naval staff.

Command Organisation

The monarch of Fatrea serves as commander-in-chief of the armed forces. All members of the armed forces swear allegiance to the monarch. Command power over the armed forces is usually devolved to the prime minister and secretary of state for defence (also known as the defence secretary) - who command the armed forces on the monarch's behalf. The prime minister, with the cabinet, makes key decisions regarding the armed forces. As commander-in-chief, the monarch has right to overrule government decisions regarding the armed forces.

The Ministry of Defence is the headquarters of the armed forces and the government department charged with formulating and executing defence policy. The department is administered by the secretary of state for defence - who is aided by the minister of state for the armed forces and the minister of state for defence procurement. Responsibility for the management of the forces is delegated to a couple of committees: the defence council and chiefs of staff committee (a sub-committee of the defence council). The defence council is composed of the monarch, senior government and ministry of defence staff and the military chiefs. As well as this, each branch of the armed forces has their own management board.

The chief of the defence staff (CDS) is the highest-ranked uniformed military official in Fatrea. They are the professional head of the armed forces and usually rank as a general, admiral, or air chief marshal. The CDS is the principle military advisor to the defence secretary. All three branches of the armed forces have their own chief of staff - the chief of the general staff (CGS) for the Fatrean Army, the chief of the naval staff (CNS) for the Royal Fatrean Navy, and the chief of the air staff (CAS) for the Royal Fatrean Air Force.

Recruitment

All three branches of the armed forces recruit directly from within Fatrea. However, foreign citizens may join if they have the direct assent of the monarch. The current minimum service age is 16 with adult consent, or 18 without adult consent. The maximum joining age is dependent on the role and branch the candidate is applying for as well as if they're applying to be a regular or reservist.

There is no current conscription in Fatrea, although military service is encouraged.
