The Fatrean Army is the principle land warfare force of the Kingdom of Fatrea. It is part of the Armed Forces of Fatrea, alongside the Royal Fatrean Navy and Royal Fatrean Air Force.
The army was founded in February 2024. Members bear allegiance to the monarch as commander-in-chief. The army is administered by the Ministry of Defence and commanded by the Chief of the General Staff. The army board is the executive body responsible for the oversight of the army.
The army is first a foremost an infantry and cavalry based force. It has not been engaged in any conflicts.
History
The Fatrean Army was established on 16 February 2024. It is sometimes colloquially known within Fatrea as the "Senior Service" as it was the first branch of the Fatrean military to be established, therefore making it the oldest despite all the branches being established on the same day.
Structure
Army Headquaters is based at the Ministry of Defence. The command structure is hierarchical, with overall command responsibility resting with the Chief of the General Staff (CGS), who is directly subordinate to the Chief of the Defence Staff. The CGS chairs the army board, the body consisting of the senior most army staff, and is assisted by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff and the Army Sergeant Major.
Recruitment
The Fatrean Army accepts recruits and officer cadets from within Fatrea, but accepts applications from all Fatrean citizens. Applicants for the regular army need to be at least 16 to enlist, but are not deployable outside of Fatrea until they are 18. Applications for the army reserves is dependent on age, and officer applicants in the regulars and reserves need to be a minimum of 17.
Oath of Allegiance
All soldiers and officers must take an oath of allegiance upon joining the army. This is conducted during a process known as attestation. Those who wish to swear by God use the following words:
"I, [soldier's or commissioned officer's name], swear by Almighty God that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Luke I, his heirs and successors and that I will as in duty bound honestly and faithfully defend His Majesty, his heirs and successors in person, crown and dignity against all enemies and will observe and obey all orders of His Majesty, his heirs, and successors and of the generals and officers set over me"
Others replace the words "swear by Almighty God" with "solemnly declare and affirm".
Training
All recruits and officer cadets for the army are required to undergo training to officially join the army. Initial military training, usually known as phase 1 training, is the first stage of training all soldiers go through and it is designed to bring all personnel to a basic and similar standard in military knowledge and skill. After graduating phase 1 training, junior soldiers and officers go through phase 2 training. Phase 2 training, also known as trade-specific training, is designed to train soldiers and officers to carry out the duties of their specific roles within the army's trained strength.
Reserves
The Army Reserves are the part time soldiers and officers of the army. Reservists are usually volunteers or ex-regulars whose contracts define a period of reserve service before being permitted to be discharged. Regiments tend to maintain at least one battalion consisting of reserve soldiers, providing reservists the same opportunities for specialisms that regulars have.
Reservists are required to give a certain amount of time a year towards their military service and can sometimes be called for periods of full-time service when needed. The Ministry of Defence maintains regulations concerning the rights of reservists and the qualifications for their service and deployment.

Most ranks across the army are known by the same name regardless of which regiment they are in. However, cavalry regiments tend to call many ranks by different names, the artillery regiments refer to Corporals as Bombardiers and Lance Corporals as Lance Bombadiers, and Private soldiers are known by a wide variety of titles; notably trooper, gunner, guardsman, kingsman, sapper, signaller, fusilier, craftsman and rifleman dependant on the regiment they belong to. The variation of rank names do not affect pay or role.
