The 2024 Villorian presidential election was held on 16th April 2024, following the resignation of incumbent president Roxanne C. Villoria uses a runoff election system, in which the two candidates with the highest percentage in the first vote advance to a second round of voting if no candidate receives more than half of the vote (In such case, the candidate in 2nd place will form the official opposition).
Tristain Wilson, who served as Vice President for 5 months in 2023. won the election with 42% of the votes. He is the first male to have won the seat of president since Matt Costa in 2018.
Background
On November 8th 2020, Zoe Jay (running with the now defunct Labour Party) defeated incumbent president Matt Costa in the only democratic election held in the USSV prior to it's collapse. No runoff was required, as Zoe Jay received 85% of the votes. Subsequently, at the 2022 election- Zoe Jay won a second term, the only president to have done so in the history of Villoria. Due to the limit of 2 terms, she was not able to run for a 3rd term. This was confirmed by her surprise resignation on February 15th 2023. Roxanne C was confirmed as President the next day, and inaugurated on the 17th.
On April 13th 2024, just over a year after her inauguration, President Roxanne C announced her resignation as both President and MP for Fleetland. This was due to the ongoing civil dispute in the Fleetish-speaking areas of the country. It is expected that former Vice President Tristain Wilson will run for President under the LWP. The candidate is due to be confirmed by April 11th.
