The Vraada conflict (Indonesian: Konflik Vraada) was an armed conflict which began on 1 December 2023, until 8 February 2024, between Marhaenia, supported by Olov (since 4 December 2023) against the Vladiskovan Independence Movement and the newly-declared State of Vladiskova.
Background
Territorial dispute
The conflict began with a misunderstanding among some residents in Vraada regarding ownership of a piece of land, leading to conflicts among local residents.
Mahmud S., the leader of Vladiskova, was a friend of Ahmad Marhaen whose thoughts are of course no longer in line with Marhaen, also known as a fascist and openly a neo-Nazi. He was chosen as Vladiskova's leader by the masses of supporters because he was considered "the most charismatic" by his supporters.
Disputes continued with another reason, such as betrayal of the ideals of socialism, and the central government attempted to mediate but failed. Subsequently, Vladiskova was founded by a group of citizens, they fought against pro-government citizens, armed with wood, branches, and stones.
Timeline
Vladiskovan resistance
On 3 December 2023, Mahmud S., the chairman of the Vladiskovan Independence Movement and also the president of the self-declared State of Vladiskova, declared a directive to intensify attacks in Vraada and its bordering regions.
Mahmud's announcement was met with a contrasting response from Marhaenian president Ahmad Marhaen, who, in his capacity, encouraged soldiers in Marhaenia to persist in their resistance against the Vladiskova separatists, prolonging the conflict.
Vladiskova's separatist attack strategy was to attack one group of people directly, armed with wood, twigs and small rocks. This strategy was ineffective compared to the guerrilla strategy used by the Revolutionary People's Army and Marhaen's Militia, which was much more effective because the battlefield was located in the quite dense forests of Vraada. After their repel, the People's Army offered protection to local civilians.
Olovian intervention on 4 December 2023
On 4 December 2023, in response of the resistance by the Vladiskovan Independence Movement, the Olovian president Saleh A.H, representing the Olovian-central government, declared official support for Marhaenia and its People's Army in the conflict, against the Vladiskovan separatists which were deemed as aggressive.[1]
Additionally, the cabinets of the Olovian-central government made a decision to intervene militarily in the ongoing conflict, siding with Marhaenia, Saleh A.H also expressed his hope that "a period of peace will occur" following the resolution of the conflict.
Treaty of December Tenth and ceasefire
On 10 December 2023, the Vladiskovan separatist movement and its supporters formally surrendered to the Marhaenian central government, marking the culmination of diplomatic efforts with the signing of the Treaty of December Tenth, which mandated a ceasefire at 10:00 AM (Western Indonesia Time).
The decision to surrender was influenced by the waning strength of Vladiskova's forces and a reluctance to perpetuate a conflict causing harm to civilian structures. Marhaen's offer of a peace agreement and ceasefire played a pivotal role.
The treaty was solidified after a 9:30 AM meeting between Marhaenian president Marhaen, members of the People's Assembly, and Vladiskova's leader, Mahmud, focusing on resolving the conflict and resulting in the signing of the treaty.
Annulment of the Treaty of December Tenth
On 17 January 2024, Vladiskova's leader Mahmud announced the annulment of the Treaty of December Tenth and the start of a second offensive against the government that was planned for 18 January 2024, but has not been carried out to date.
