The Supreme People's Congress is the legislative branch of the government of the Democratic People's Republic of Kirkland.
Constitutional role
The Supreme People's Congress forms the legislative branch of the government of the DPRoK. The Congress has the power to draft and approve laws that are binding on the whole nation.
The Congress has the responsibility of selecting the Council of People's Commissars and the Premiership in conjunction with the Political Bureau of the Communist Party.
The Congress is restricted from passing certain laws that are not permitted by the constitution. Ex post facto laws, bills of attainder, and other types of laws are not permitted to be passed by the Congress.
The Congress is elected in an open election in which all of the citizens of the DPRoK may participate. Only members of the Communist Party that are approved by the Political Bureau are allowed to run but otherwise there are no restrictions on who may hold office in the Congress.
The Congress is led by the Chairman. The Chairman is selected by and from amongst the sitting Congresspeople.
