First Summit of Micronations
The First Summit of Micronations—also simply known as the Summit of Micronations—was an artistic intermicronational summit[1] held at the Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, Finland between 29 and 31 August 2003. Coinciding with a performance festival called Amorph!03, it was the first large gathering of micronationalists held in Europe. Six micronations attended the summit—Elgaland-Vargaland, the Royal Republic of Ladonia, Neue Slowenische Kunst, the State of Sabotage, Principality of Sealand and the Transnational Republic.
Excluding Sealand, the micronations in attendance are all self-described art exhibitions or in some way art-related. Despite its name, it was not the first summit of micronations ever held, as such summits first took place in the early 1980s during the Japanese micronations boom. About 20 people attended the summit, making it the largest intermicronational summit ever held until PoliNation 2010, which had some 40 attendees.
It was curated by Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen.[2]
