Spoliarium Magna was the "home den" or capital of the micronations of NED and DEONQED until its destruction in 2012. In 2013, it was subject to limited use by DEONQED, but by 2014 it has become an empty field although it is subject to development by Borealia.
Etymology
Spoliarium Magna is an Adammic name for the home den of NED and DEONQED, meaning the "Great Den". There was no original name for this territory, although it was known affectionately as "base", and is referenced in literature as "the main den", the "grand den" or "the home den". It was never classified in any of the empires that controlled that den.
Subdivisions
The main subdivisions of Spoliarium Magna in the period 2010-12 were as follows: The Motorway, the Area of Archaeological Significance, the Main Hall, the Secret Offices and Stores, the Meadow, and the Garden. A lot of these were renames of older NED province names, although the provinces of The Stores, the Meadow and the Secret offices were brand new to the DEONQED era.
History
The recorded history of Spoliarium Magna goes back to 1598. A map from that time shows the site was a downs to the east of Crediton, and probably part of the manor of Chapel Downs. A farmhouse stood on the site between 1600 and 1850 and after that an isolation hospital, which stood until the 1930s until it burnt down. From the 1990s to 2005, the den was under the control of roving groups from Avranches, who formed the Avranches Empire. However, between 2005 and 2009 it was the heartland of NED and from 2010 to 2012 it was the heartland of DEONQED.
Resources
Spoliarium Magna, once being on the site of an old hospital and farmhouse, was well endowed with bricks. This helped NED's rise in the mid-2000s, as there was for some reason a heavy demand for bricks which helped trade grow around the whole den world. In the DEONQED era, the den was a very minor area of den production as demand had mostly subsided. Now, in the Adamic Era, it is once more an important site for brick production. Spoliarium Magna has never had major amounts of wood extracted from its territory, relying mostly on imports from the Long Plantation. However, it was once a major source of planks in the DEONQED era but there was only a finite amount of them.
