Snagovism (Romanian Cyrillic: Снаговисм), is a social and cultural movement first originating in the Snagovian People's Republic that aims to reconnect the people of southern Romania with their Bulgarian, and subsequently, Turkic roots.

History

The Vlacho-Bulgar Turanic Union is the main Snagovist organisation.

Originally regarded as a syncretic political ideology, Snagovism started being developed and was first coined as a term in November 2021 by Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu, describing it as "the hope of the Snagovian people. It was rebranded into a social and cultural movement in 2024.

Symbolism

The main symbol of Snagovism consists of a unique Tamga, which combines multiple historical Bulgarian and Snagovian symbols. The Tamga of the Dulo clan ("IYI"), the letter Sha ("Ш") of the House of Shishman, and vaguely, an outline of Kiril. The symbol was uniquely created to represent an identity that ties Snagov to the First and Second Bulgarian Empires.

The main colour associated with Snagovism is a unique shade of teal, as seen on the flag used by adherents to the movement. The shade of teal is unique as it represents the mix of the green and blue hues from the flag of Snagov.

The Pan-Turanist wolf salute is often used by Snagovists.

Criticism

Snagovism has often been criticized due to its promotion of pseudoscientific ideology and beliefs, specifically, Turanism and the Sun Language Theory.
