The Autonomous Republic of Saumida, more commonly known as Saumida, is a micronation founded on 18 January 2020 with the aim of organising, safeguarding and disseminating the artistic activities of the Saumidians.


Etymology

The name Saumida comes from "Land of the Willow", in reference to how the founders of micronation made the pact under a willow tree.


Politics and government

Saumida is a direct democracy, with a unicameral parliament, the National Assembly, made up of all citizens over the age of eighteen with no pending legal cases or criminal records.

The National Assembly appoints a government composed of the Prime Minister and the Ministers of the nation, who are responsible for executive tasks.

A Supreme Court of Justice is responsible for organizing administrative tasks in legal matters. Trials are mostly public and judgments are decided by popular juries.

Geography

The capital of Saumida is Salixtria, and it is situated at the foot of a mountain range in the north of Spain.

The Saumidian landscape is dominated by pastures and forests, both coniferous and indigenous. There are also numerous agricultural holdings.

History

On 18 January 2020, Joseph van der Waals and Dionysius I founded the Kingdom of Saumida. The first official act was the drafting of the Constitution, which was adopted on the same day.

On 20 January 2020, the first elections were held to elect the Royal Council. José van der Waals received 8 votes and was therefore elected councillor and subsequently appointed Prime Minister by the King Dionisio I.

The first laws were those of official symbols of the nation, the flag and coat of arms, as well as cultural institutions, the National Library and the National Art Gallery.

On January 24, 2020, Correos de Saumida was created to issue commemorative stamps on dates of national interest as well as to ensure digital communications of the Saumidians. On January 26, the first postal issue was presented on the occasion of Environmental Education Day, with the aim of contributing to the struggle for an ecological transition towards a new model of life reconciled with nature.

On 31 January 2020, King Dionysius I created the nation's first county, appointing Prime Minister José van der Waals as Count of Plasira.

On 4 February 2020, a website was created that operates with the digital infrastructure to guarantee the use of emails @saumida.com to citizens in https://saumida.com/correos/.

On 19 February 2020, Dionysius the First abdicated as King of Saumida to guarantee, according to Decree 8/2020, that the nation could be managed via a republican model.

The following days saw the transition to a republican model of assembly democracy, which culminated on 15 March 2020 with the approval of the Constitution of the Autonomous Republic of Saumida by referendum.

On April 1, 2020, the Prime Minister was elected in the National Assembly, and Dionysius de Salix, former King of Saumida, was elected.

Economy

On January 25, 2020, the Bank of Saumida was created to ensure that the nation could make its own issues of banknotes in the national currency, the Sauce ($).

On April 9, 2020, the company Salix Creatives Visual Designs was created and commissioned to replace the logo of the Official Bulletin of Saumida.

Education and Sciences

On 29 January 2020, the Royal Society of Sciences and Humanities of Saumida was created, with the aim of promoting educational activities and dissemination of Science, History and utilities for Saumida, and research on their possible applications in the present. The Society was dissolved with the transition to the Republic and on April 1, 2020, the Technological Educational Institute of Saumida (TEIS) was created.


Culture

On 23 January 2020, Act No. 2/2020 on cultural institutions was adopted, creating the National Library and the National Art Gallery, with the aim of safeguarding and disseminating material on the pictorial arts, literature and traditions of Saumida.
