Meytallia, officially the Republic of Meytallia, is a North American micronation landlocked within the State of Texas. It initially formed on September 19, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas when the proclamation of independence was made on the steps of Parliament, written and read by Prime Minister Sanders, who is still their leader to this day, forming the first republic known as the Republic of Westnestria. The current form of Meytallia is a result of the country changing its' former name from Westnestria to Meytallia. With it came certain amendments to the country's constitution, of which there is a stronger emphasis on self-sufficiency and vigilance. They strive to make trade and commerce their main focus.

Republic of Westnestria (20 September 2013 – 19 September 2016)

The Republic of Westnestria was the first real attempt at forming a solid government. There were very few laws and practically no infrastructure. There was very little law and order and the country was dealing with a rather severe recession at the time. After the Libertarian Action Party won in the first election, they ran the country for three years until it was decided through a vote to the constituents and a rewriting of the constitution, to dissolve the republic and turn it into the Republic of Meytallia.

Republic of Meytallia (19 September 2016 – Present)

Shortly after forming the Republic of Meytallia, the Libertarian Action Party resumed its current role as the acting party in charge of the republic. Since the formation of the Republic of Meytallia, there has been one election, in 2017, in which four other parties were present, but the Libertarian Action Party ultimately won and remains in power presently.

Present

As of September 2021, Meytallia has had a more stable and steady growth towards its goals. The National Yard has conclusive plans to begin major infrastructure projects within the country and continue building diplomatic relations, both micronational and macronational.

Government & Politics

Government

The Republic of Meytallia currently is designated as a Constitutional, Parliamentary, Meritocratic, Merchant Republic that has democratic processes with a Prime Minister as their Head of State. The government is broken up into 3 branches; the Executive, Legislative and Judicial. These branches all work at the National Yard. Members of the National Yard are aptly named "Yardies".

The National Yard is currently comprised of 13 positions. These ministerial positions are then split between the Legislative, Judicial and Executive branches respectively. They are:

Executive

The Executive branch consists of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is given the power to grant pardons for offenses against the Republic of Meytallia, fill Legislature vacancies, create new Ministry Departments (cabinet positions), conclude treaties, and appoint ambassadors and Supreme Court Judges and other “public ministers and councils.” The Deputy Prime Minister is second in charge, taking the position of acting prime minister when the prime minister is temporarily absent.

Legislative

The legislative branch is made up of the House and the Senate, known collectively as the National Yard. Among other powers, the legislative branch makes all laws, declares war, regulates interstate and foreign commerce and controls taxing and spending policies. This branch consists of the Secretary/ Minister of Finance, Minister of Defense, Minister of Education, Minister of Cultural Affairs, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Minister of Communications & Information, Minister of Public Health & Safety, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister of the Environment and Water Resources, and the Minister of Housing and Communities.

Judicial

The Judicial Branch is made up of just the Minister of Justice. Their role is to explain the laws of the country, determine if laws are constitutional and regulate the court system. It's also the branch that holds the Meytallian Supreme Court.

The Republic of Meytallia has maintained a rather strict, Swiss-like approach when it comes to foreign relations and diplomacy. The nation considered itself to be a rather neutral nation with non-interventionism (both macro and micro) principles enshrined, in the countries constitution, granting them the privilege of rarely being involved in conflicts. Official policies and laws within the country make recognition of other sovereign states fairly easy, but when it comes to participation with international organizations and multinational groups, it is very difficult to nearly impossible for some because of the country's extremely strict criteria for being considered a legitimate entity.

Military

The Meytallian Self Defense Forces were founded on 25 September 2016 as the Meytallian Self Defense Forces, a few days after the dissolution of the Republic of Wesnestria, and the foundation of the Republic of Meytallia. The Army was originally the only component of the defense forces, but now is comprised of the Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, and the Capitol Guard. The primary function of the defense forces hasn't changed much from its role, which is intended to be a defensive force to protect the micronation. Due to Meytallia's strict foreign policy regarding the deployment of military assets outside the borders of Meytallia, as outlined in the Meytallian Constitution, the defense forces are mostly confined to the borders of Meytallia and assisting in humanitarian aid work. This has allowed the country to avoid major conflicts with both micro and macro countries.

Demographics

Population

As of 2022, there is no officially published census. This is because, rather oddly, the Republic of Meytallia makes the official census number classified. The reasoning for this is that it's due to the countries rather strict privacy laws not allowing certain personal information being allowed into the public records. So, any information that does arise showing an "official" census number is most likely misleading or incorrect.

Language

The Republic of Meytallia officially has two languages. Per the Constitution of Meytallia, English and Ong are the official languages. English is the language of everyday use throughout every facet of society, from business to education to commerce. Ong, on the other hand, is a rather unique language only found in Meytallia. The entirety of the language is spoken, as there is no written script for it, thus making it one of the few languages in the world that must be learned by ear.

Religion

Christianity is the single largest religion practiced within the Meytallian general population at about 98.0%, with the remaining 2.0% being mostly agnostic or unaffiliated. While the Meytallian Constitution ensures freedom of religion for all and doesn't officially endorse any religion, Judeo-Christian values play a very important role in how the country functions at the cultural level. This can be reflected in how the culture tends to be very libertarian minded and will usually take a more peaceful approach to interactions with others around them.

Health

In Meytallia, all health and medical related policies, regulations and procedures fall under the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Health & Safety. When it comes to the overall culture and attitude towards health and medical care, it tends to be heavily libertarian in nature. One of the ways this manifests is in the strong delineation between "Health care" and "Medical care" as two completely different things. In Meytallia, their laws and regulations make it clear that health care is an individual choice, and medical care is something that individuals seek out when it is needed and helps in the aid of one's health care. That's why it is strongly advised that individuals take very good care of themselves so they don't have to be in and out of the medical care system. Meytallia does and will take care of anyone who asks for it, but there is always a stipulation that is attached to it. Certain criteria will be applied to every individual who seeks out medical care within Meytallia. The more healthy an individual is, the lower their overall costs will be. The more unhealthy they are, the higher their overall costs will be.
