The Meytallian Self Defense Forces fall under the responsibility of the Ministry of Defence, and comprises of the Army, Marine Corps, Capitol Guard and the Air Force of the Republic of Meytallia and serve as one of the Republic's unifying institutions and primary instruments for defense.
The military structure of the Republic of Meytallia is a rather unusual mixture of both US, Russian and Israeli military culture with certain aspects of each countries military culture demonstrating themselves throughout the different branches in the defense forces, such as the universal conscription of all citizens, both male and female, to the continuity of command amongst all ranks, to joint operations amongst all the branches. All the best aspects are taken and put into effect.
History
Establishment
The Meytallian Self Defense Forces was founded on 25 September 2016 as the Meytallian Self Defense Forces, few days after the dissolution of the Republic of Wesnestria, and foundation of the Republic of Meytallia. The Army was originally the only component of the defense forces, but now is comprised of the Army, S.T.U. (Special Tactics Unit), and paramilitary units within the local police and security departments. The primary function of the defense forces hasn't changed much from its role, which is intended to be a defensive force to protect the micronation. Due to Meytallia's strict foreign policy regarding the deployment of military assets outside the borders of Meytallia, as outlined in the Meytallian Constitution, the defense forces are mostly confined to borders of Meytallia and assisting in humanitarian aid work. This has allowed the country to avoid major conflicts with both micro and macro countries.
Army
The Meytallian Self Defense Forces Army is the largest component of the ground forces and is dedicated to the protection of Meytallian interests within its territory. Currently it consists of the following:
- 2 Infantry Regiments
- 2 Medical Regiments
- 2 Logistics Companies
- 1 Communications Company
Marine Corps
The Meytallian Self Defense Forces Marine Corps is the smallest component of the ground forces and is dedicated to the protection of Meytallian interests within its territory. Currently it consists of the following:
- 1 Infantry Brigade
- 2 Medical Regiments
- 1 Logistics Regiment
- 1 Communications Company
Capitol Guards
The Capitol Guards is the more unique addition to the Meytallian Self Defense Forces. It is a stand alone extension of the defense forces and consists of three platoons of soldiers from any of the branches special tactics units (S.T.U). They guard the capitol of the country and are the personal bodyguards of the heads of state including the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and other Ministers. They also guard all government buildings and culturally significant sites of interest including the National Yard and Meytallian Supreme Court.
Special Forces (S.T.U.)
The Meytallian Special Forces, also known as S.T.U. (Special Tactics Unit), is another unique branch within the Meytallian Self Defense Force. While most militaries in the world have special forces units for each of the their branches, Meytallia is unique in that their special forces is it's own branch. They consist of members from the Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force. Their training is some of the most rigorous within the self defense force, with an attrition rate of about 90%. They will usually attach themselves to or integrate into the other branches, usually as advisors, but their specialty is military intelligence.
Air Force
The Meytallian Self Defense Forces Air Force is the newest edition of the defense forces and has the smallest amount of members within the self defense forces. They have existed since 2019 and mostly consist of a single drone company and communications company.
Rank and Insignia
Uniforms & Equipment
Camouflage
The majority of the Meytallian Self Defense Forces uniforms and equipment is sourced from outside the country, as their is not much of a manufacturing base inside the country to produce locally made patterns and equipment. Because of this, it has lead to the defense forces making some rather interesting decisions when it comes to the types of patterns that are used throughout the forces. The main pattern that seems to be consistent throughout all branches is that of the Flecktarn family of camouflage patterns, with some woodland and multicam variants sprinkled throughout, mostly designated towards specialty units.
