Health & Medical Care in the Republic of Meytallia
In Meytallia, all health and medical related policies, regulations and procedures fall under the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Health & Safety within their Medical Department. When it comes to the overall culture and attitude towards health and medical care, it tends to be heavily libertarian in nature. One of the ways this manifests is in the strong delineation between "Health care" and "Medical care" as two completely different things. In Meytallia, their laws and regulations make it clear that health care is an individual choice, and medical care is something that individuals seek out when it is needed and helps in the aid of one's health care. That's why it is strongly advised that individuals take very good care of themselves so they don't have to be in and out of the medical care system. Meytallia does and will take care of anyone who asks for it, but there is always a stipulation that is attached to it. Certain criteria will be applied to every individual who seeks out medical care within Meytallia. The more healthy an individual is, the lower their overall costs will be. The more unhealthy they are, the higher their overall costs will be.
Medical care
The current medical care system in Meytallia is a rather interesting hybrid built off of two systems. The first one being the "Singapore model" styled medical care system, which consists of a government-run, publicly funded universal medical care system that subsidies through a mixture of direct government subsidies (up to 75%) like a national healthcare insurance and cost sharing. The second system being of the free, open market private medical care sector that allows for innovation and breakthroughs to flourish. One of the core tannates of medical care in Meytallia is that everyone in the health and medical community understand that " the full picture must be understood before healing begins." This is why medical care in Meytallia tends to steer towards "Naturopathic" and "Holistic" forms of medicine being taught and practiced within its hospitals, clinics, colleges and universities, schools, and the community at large. This is partially because of Meytallia's laws and regulations around medicine and medical practice being rather strict, and the violations surrounding it having very severe consequences. Thus, the holistic and naturopathic approaches in medicine are incredibly popular in the medical community, as it is a way for all to put out their best effort and constantly innovate for the betterment of the community.
Response to COVID-19
The COVID-19 virus that allegedly swept across the world during 2020 was rather crippling to a lot of micro and macro nations. Not for Meytallia though. In Meytallia's case, the country continued with business as usual. This is partially because the government left its citizens alone. While they did issue statements on being vigilante, they saw no reason to lockdown and mask up their citizens. They saw what was happening to citizens in other countries around them and recognized very quickly that what was being demanded of them was rather asinine. It also helps that because Meytallia doesn't recognize the World Health Organization as a legitimate organization, they also don't listen to their authority, therefore voiding the demands and information that was coming out from them. Rather, they turned to their own Ministry of Health & Public Safety for guidance and information and devised their own plans on how to interact with the other countries around them.
