The Republic of Clippertonia, more commonly known as Clippertonia, is a country in the pacific ocean. It was founded in September 2023, following the years long disputes of France and Mexico over the island. It is located on Clipperton Island, an Island approx. 690 nautical miles from Acalpulco, Mexico.

History

The island was discovered in 1524, by Ferdinand Magellan. The island was then thrown from country to country, until it was just France and Mexico fighting over the tiny atoll that was miles and miles away from each of them. In 2023, Clipperton Island declared independence as Clippertonia.

Oceanic 815 Crash

In 2004, Oceanic Airlines flight 815 from Sydney to Los Angeles, crash-landed on the island. It is unknown what happened afterwards.

Government and Politics

The island has only one political party, the DHARMA initiative, but in the constitution of Clippertonia it is explicitly says that anyone can form a political party that does not attempt to disrupt the government. The parliament of Clippertonia legislates the country and makes laws. The president is also head of all military forces of Clippertonia. The country has no standing army, and maintains a police force, as well as a coast guard.

Geography

The coral island is located in the Eastern Pacific ocean, and is approx. 583 nmi southwest of Mexico, 1309 nmi west of Nicaragua, 1374 nmi west of Costa Rica, and 1290 nmi northwest of the Galapagos Islands.

Economy

The nation's currency is bottle caps. The exchange rate with American Dollars is 1:1. The country has no economic partners.

Tourism

The country has very few tourists, and not many planes fly over it after Oceanic 815.

Transportation

There are no roads, airports, or boat docks on the island. A national, government-owned airline, Air Clippertonia, was founded.

Demographics

There are no humans living on the island. There is a crab species, the Clipperton Crab.

Culture

The country's name is after John Clipperton, a British Buccaneer who used the island as a base for his raids.

The country observes the Gregorian new year on 1 January, and Festivus on 23 December.
