The Principality of Seems was a US based micronation, founded on 17 March 2019. The goal of this micronation was to spread awareness of conspiracy theories and the truth behind them. The nation also functions as a regular sovereign state, with crops, water, parks, currency, etc. The name stems from the saying by Phaedrus, “Things are not always what they seem.”

The name comes from the quote from Phaedrus, "Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden." Since the nation is founded upon conspiracies, this quote was chosen to become part of the name (Seems), and the motto.

Government and politics

The Prince of Seems was JJ Maxwell. The prince served as the head of state, representing the nation, but did not hold any political power. The prince was chosen through heredity. If anyone was related to the prince, and, after the current prince's death, and wanted to claim the title, the had the right to do so. The prince could also serve as Prime Minister. The Prime Minister was voted for every four years.

Prime Minister

The current Prime Minister of Seems was JJ Maxwell. As prime minister, they were the effective leader of the state and government, since they can actually hold political power and clout. They had the power to veto laws passed by Parliament, grant pardons (although they cannot officially give the title; that is the job of the Prince), make treaties (with the consent of Parliament), and appoint judges to the High Court.

The Prime Minister was part of the Democratic Party of Seems.

The Parliament of Seems had one voting member, but it was the legislative branch in Seems. Whenever the Parliament of Seems was full however, there should have been 100 seats filled. Citizens wishing to run for a seat in the Parliament must have been at least 13 years old. The maximum number of people that can run for a seat in Parliament is 150. Parliament was voted for every six years. The powers of Parliament went as follows: make laws, overturn the Minister's vetoes, approve treaties, approve High Judges, and conduct impeachment trials. Everything in the Parliament must be passed with a 2/3 vote.

High Court

The High Court was the highest judicial power in Seems. Judges on the Court were appointed by the Prime Minister. They served until they die or commit a crime. The Court has the power to review laws, treaties, and previous trials to see if they are constitutional or unconstitutional. There are 11 persons that serve on the High Court, and they must be approved by the Parliament.
