The United Federation Army's Officer Candidate School (OCS), sometimes known as the United Federation Army Academy, is an officer candidate school that trains, assesses, and evaluates potential commissioned officers of the UF Army, UF Army Reserve and Army National Guard. Cadets at the academy are normally former enlisted personnel, inter-service transfers and civilians selected as candidates by the academy.
OCS is a course designed to train, evaluate, assess and develop potential officers for commissions in the UF Army. OCS is currently the only way to commission into the UF Army in times of peace that aren't honorary commissions. The only other method to commission is to win a direct commission which normally are only given out to select individuals during times of conflict.
History
The Officer Candidate School was established by Luke Knight on 9 May 2023 in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief during his Presidency. It is the oldest Aumarean military academy and oldest Aumarean officer training school.
Leadership
The OCS is overseen by a commanding officer who typically ranks between Colonel and Brigadier General. They are aided by an Adjutant who normally rank at Lieutenant Colonel and an Academy Sergeant Major. If the OCS Commanding Officer ranks at Brigadier General, they require appointment by the President of the United Federation on the advice and consent of the United Federation Senate.
Selection
Officer cadets during selection are known as officer candidates and must pass a series of tests to be accepted into the school.
An officer candidate will meet with a recruiter. After the initial interview, the recruiter will decide if the officer candidate should move forward in the process based on if they think the officer candidate is suitable for OCS and army life. After completing the initial interview the officer candidate will need to pass a series of cognitive ability tests known as the Army Selection Board (ASB). During the ASB the officer candidate also is required to write an essay about themself and why they want to join the army and are also put through leadership assessments to gage their level of leadership.
After passing the ASB the officer candidate has to pass a fitness test. If they achieve a suitable score on the fitness test they are accepted into the academy.
Training
The training course is designed to commission new second lieutenants into the army and army reserves.
The Army's Officer Candidate School is programmed to teach leadership and soldiering tasks, using the infantry battle drills. Officer cadets are also trained how to perform ceremonial drill and are expected to be able to perform it to a high standard upon graduation. A candidate should expect to be under constant observation and evaluation by their cadre during their training.
Officer Candidate School is conducted in three phases: Basic Phase, Intermediate Phase, and Senior phase. Students are referred to as either basic officer cadets (BOCs), intermediate officer cadets (IOCs), or senior officer cadets (SOCs) as their classes progress.
Officer Cadets train with 1st Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment.
