The New Island or Bouchaud Island is one of the islands in the estuary of the Gironde. The New Island, whose area is around 265 hectares, including top reedbeds attended by a number of protected bird species.
The Sans-Pain Island and Bouchaud Island are now virtually joined due to progressive silting and are referred to as the New Island.
Since 2013, the island is now part of the territory claimed by the Principality of Hélianthis
