The Minister of Veteran Affairs, sometimes the Veteran Affairs Minister, is the head of the Department of Veteran Affairs, an executive department, and a member of the federal cabinet. The minister works closely with the Minister of Defence and is appointed by the President.
Duties
The main remit of the minister is coordinating the Department of Veteran Affairs which is concerned with veterans' benefits, health care, and national veterans' memorials and cemeteries. They work in accordance with government policy to ensure the smooth delivery of these from their department.
Requirements for Office
Unlike most cabinet-level offices concerned with defence, the veteran affairs minister is required to have served in the military and be a veteran themselves to ensure the effective carrying out of the office of veteran affairs minister.
Appointment
The veteran affairs minister is appointed by the President of the United Federation after they take office. The president normally appoints a person to office on the advice and consent of the senate.
