The Medal of Valor was the second military award of the Republic of Atlantis, awarded only in times of war. The decorations for valor have been established to highlight the acts of military heroism, pointing out as worthy of public honor the authors of them and stirring, at a time, a competitive spirit in members of the military forces. The decorations for valor were awarded to those who, to commit an act of bravery that could be omitted without missing the duty and honor, have knowingly dealt with remarkable courage and successful initiative, a manifest and grave personal risk in military exploits. The award of such decorations could take place only when the act performed, however, was that it can be, in every respect, an example worthy of imitation.
