Marxia was a subnational region and autonomous commune of Sonora. Marxia was once under territorial representation of the Republic of Promesa but was liberated on July 13, 2015 when Shaoshan became a constitutional monarchy. Through this, Marxia became a protectorate under Shaoshan and gained new rights, privileges and freedoms under Shaoshanian governance. During the Restoration of the Republic, Marxia sided with the Republican government and soon became the new regional force that once was the "Greater Shaoshanian Region" as a state, with Shaoshan City as its capital. Marxia, thusly, gained a new political role with greater power and autonomy as a state under the federal republic. It maintained a privileged role in Shaoshanian politics and society up until its declaration of independence on October 10, 2016 from Shaoshan. Governed as a socialist republic, the Premier was the designated head of state and government who presides over the People's Assembly and acted as the chief executive. Following its declaration of independence, Marxia entered an alliance with Shaoshan and the Olaf Empire. On December 4, 2016, Shaoshan dissolved and the Marxian Premier, with agreement of the Olaf King and Shaoshanian President, reformed the alliance into an empire to form Sonora. In doing so, Marxian became a Principality with the Sonoran monarchy remains the head of state as Prince/Princess while the Premier remains the Chief executive and head of the Marxian People's Assembly. However, during the socialist revolution, Marxia was the first to declare itself a republic and abolished its monarchy. Marxia fell into relative inactivity and when the government moved from Shaoshan to Columbia, the city was left with virtually nobody, with most of its citizens living as expatriates or in Shaoshan. The state was then became known as the State of Shaoshan and the city incorporated as part of the City of Shaoshan.

History

Following the same history as its regional sister state, Shaoshan, and its predecessor, Costa Dorada, Marxia was established on September 7, 2014 as a semi-autonomous state separate from their jurisdiction but still administered by its head of state. Following talks with Promeshe President, Ariel Lederman, Titus Smith agreed to enter into a joint venture in which the Commune would be administered locally and legislatively in the Fedralis by him and his people, while Yaari and his nation would maintain national jurisdiction over it. On November 30, 2014, Costa Dorada dissolved and Smith briefly left the micronational community to focus on personal issues. However, as he only legally dissolved his nation and not Marxia, it continued to function with a weak government structure, if one at all. When Smith returned in February 2015, he reestablished his claim over the territory and his place as its regional executive and legislative representative. It continued to exist as a Promeshe territory until on July 13, 2015, Smith wrote to Yaari expressing his intention to withdraw the territory and reuniting Marxia under Shaoshanian rule. Smith subsequently resigned from Promeshe politics and dissolved the Progressive Unity Party which was headquartered in Marxia. Marxia enjoyed a short period of quasi-independence as a protectorate of Shaoshan until the Restoration of the Republic, in which Marxia sided with the Republican movement, eventually joining the union as a state of the republic on August 1. In October 2015, the Land Claims Act designated Marxia a historical heritage site to the Republic of Shaoshan, which would later be built in Victory Square in the Marxian city-state. On November 6, Marxia split to rebuild its historical city-state and Shaoshan City gained political standing as an independent state itself. In January 2016, Shaoshan City and Marxia reunified under one flag following weeks of talks and a final agreement. On March 17, 2016, Shaoshan became a monarchy once again, and Marxia was the first of the states to ratify and recognize the Shaoshanian monarchy as their own and becoming a principality, an act of irony when they supported the Republican movement eight months before. After a tumultuous political period in which Shaoshan transitioned back into a republic following an April Coup, Marxia finally accepted the new regime and held state elections in May 2016. On October 10, 2016, Marxia declared independence from Shaoshan while its citizens unanimously requested to retain their Shaoshanian citizenship as well. An alliance with also formed with Shaoshan and the Olaf Empire to form the Sonoran Alliance. On December 4, 2016, Shaoshan dissolved and the Marxian Premier reorganized the alliance into a empire, with agreement from the other two powers. Under the empire, Marxia became a Principality with the Sonoran monarch as Prince/Princess and the Premier as chief executive and head of the Marxian People's Assembly. In August 2017, Marxia became a socialist state during the overall socialist revolution in Sonora and abolished the monarch's rule. When the government moved in January 2018, the state ceased to exist being incorporated as part of the greater city and state of Shaoshan.

Government and politics

Marxia was governed as a autonomous nation within another political entity. Its head of government was the Premier who operated the functions of the state and its governing body, the People's Assembly, and exercised the powers of the executive. The Premier was elected every three months and represented the nation abroad. The Marxian People's Armed Police provided civilian and national defense in the form of a paramilitary force and the Premier was the commander-in-chief. The Marxian People's Assembly was a participatory gathering through the form of parliamentary democracy to make policy and direct and progress the state.

Culture

Marxia was influenced heavily by Sonoran culture and politics and therefore many aspects of the nation were Sonoran in origin. This included its traditional and unique California roots in the Bay Area, its unique linguistics and speech, food, etc. These influences were a culture clash of Americanization as well as Mexican and Asian culture, primarily that of Chinese influence. At its peak, 42 people claimed residence or affiliation with Marxia and about 27 people were recorded as being citizens of the state near its demise.
