Since early August there had been plans to turn Mangalistan into a republic. However former khan Toshiko was against the idea and threatened to oust K'ab Han to defend the monarchy. On August 8, 2015, Toshiko re-declared himself as khan and ousted K'ab Han. Noyan Hasan and K'ab Han formed the pro-republican nationalist Mangal National People's Front to combat Toshiko and the Mangal Civil War began.
