The Kingdom of Moorland, also simply known as just Moorland, is a Moorlandic small micronation located on the northeastern part of the continent of Keltia^[1] on the planet Micras. It was historically a part of the Kingdom of Nova England, in which it dissolved not long after annexing the once uninhabited region of Moorland.^[2]

Etymology

The name 'Moorland' mainly comes from sightings of the Nova English; mainly seeing moors all the time. It is not to be confused with Port Moorland, its largest city, the District of Moorland, the district of the capital, and many subdivisions of the Republic of Mercury.

History

Pre-History

Despite being only created in March 2023, Moorland was still a region of Nova England, even though Nova England was at risk of inactivity. Once Nova England dissolved, the Royal Family was departed to the Commonwealth of the South Sea Islands. Those who remained would highly be attacked by hostile tribes.^[3] New populations started blooming, with the Kingdom of Normark having the highest factor.^[4] The Bassarid Empire also played a big factor, moving in from Haifa.^[5]^[6] But the hostile tribes started invading the Benacian Union, brief holder of "their islands".^[7]The Norse fought back during the formation of the Kingdom of Ostland.^[8] Hurmu, in response, created the District of Moorland as 'a spot to keep an eye on' for the tribes.^[9] The spots in-between Mercury and Ostland were claimed by the Clans of Moorland, which were refused to be brought to heel. All of this immense pressure led to Alpin MacMartin creating the Kingdom of Moorland.^[10]

Early Development

When created, Moorland requested the Raspur Pact for access to the pact seeking military aid for the ongoing attacks of the Dispossessed.^[11] But at the end of the year Moorland's joining became official.^[12] Later Moorland became a member of the Micras Cartography Society. Moorland also gained enough evidence in Ostland that the Dispossessed secretly assassinated the King of Ostland, replacing him with impostors.^[13] These were actually Bassarids, in which Moorland invaded Ostland for the Bassarids to surrender.^[14] After the surrenders, Moorland withdrew some forces at the National Redoubt territory. This place now has a large Moorlandic population.

More Recognition

After many intense negotiations, Moorland and Ostland finally signed the Treaty of Port Moorland, in which Port Moorland was ceded, in return MacMartin recognizes Ostland's government.^[15] They repaired more relationships, and deleted any signs of the Dispossessed. Later that same year, Hurmu ceded South Moorland to the Kingdom. More efforts were raised to protect the region from the Dispossessed by Operation Southpaw.^[16] The military aid from the Raspur Pact really helped out Moorland fight back the Dispossessed in Nevermoor.^[17] There are also plans to connect a large frontier from Moorland to Normark to make a southern route. This route would be an advantage in Operation Northway.^[18] At the time of the conflict, imports and exports were redirected south due to the Burwood Wildfires, defeating Ostland in the process.^[19] Moorland and Burwood were instructed to takeover the remains of Ostland.

Big Decisions

Still battling the giant wildfires, there were plans to attempt to restore Ostland. After the fires were extinguished, Ostland was successfully restored as the Council of Burwood, now owned by Moorland.^[20] The Dispossessed finally surrendered not long after. During the reconstruction, the Moorlandic Antarctic Expedition was launched to Beelandia.^[21]^[22] Moorland is still active today.

Politics and government

Moorland, as a constitutional monarchy, includes a Royal family as head-of-state, and a Prime Minister as head-of-government. As of March 2023, Alpin MacMartin is the king of Moorland.

Legislative

Moorland contains a parliamentary government with the Witan, creating the legislative branch. When a bill is created, they are given assent by the Royal family before becoming law.^[23] Representatives elected in the Witan are known as the Members of Witan, and the head of Witan is known as the Witan Chief.^[24] The Witan Chief is the head of the Moorlandic government and sometimes the leader of the Witan's parties.
